What kind of Race would you get?

Hi,
I was wondering in N2, what kinda' race would you get if you were to
take the driver's skill ratings and match them up to be the same, or a
few point's off. Everything, the same numbers. I'm doing a season and
D.W. just about finishes last every race. So I thought if I put his
skill's the same as maybe Jeff Gordon's he would be more competitive.
But what happens if EVERYONE has the same? Should get some good races.
Instead of always having the same two or three guys winning. I mean to
get back to the original settings, I could always write what they had
before I made the changes. Has anyone done this yet. Just wondering,
that's all.

First thing you need to do is narrow the range for each AI driver's
ratings.  If they are still wide, there will still be some variance, as
the sim picks a number in the range to assign to that driver's skill.
In theory, it should make for some pretty close racing.  However, from
what I have heard from various Papyrus folks, there was in N1, ICR1&2,
some "set in stone" performance per driver position in the drivers2.txt
file.  So, playing with the AI's ratings would produce some effect,
there where still some variables that weren't affected.

This may not be the case with N2.

Jim, can you shed any light on this?  Was this true for earlier Papy
sims?  Is this true for NASCAR 2?

In N1 and ICR2, if the values are identical (and without any variance),
the
cars will parade around - and around - and around...The variable effect on
performance values of the differing positions (2 through 5, I think) is
noticable only if the value-difference is constant:

100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 - Will produce equal performance for all
drivers, regardless of chassis, etc.

100 200 100 200 100 200 100 200 - May produce unequal performance for
all drivers, regardless of chassis, etc.

I haven't tested this one yet...and I ain't gonna'!!  :P

Cheers!

Marc
