GPL Hare & Hound races?

by Richard ZZ Busc » Sun, 07 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I was wondering if anyone has tried Hare & Hound races in GPL?
By this I mean 1 driver takes off at the start while the others stay at
S/F for 15 secs or more depending on the track and it's length. I was
just thinking of this since I need to chase or be chased in order to run
fast.

Has anyone done this? I know that some club racers do this, but I am
unclear as to how it's really done.

GPL Hare & Hound races?

That sounds like a cool idea Richard. We used to run races in the California
Sports Car Club they called Australian Pursuit races, for mixed classes of
production cars. You take your best qualifying lap and multiply it against
the number of laps. The car with the slowest time leaves first, the next
slowest leaves based on their time differential, etc. In theory, at the end
of the race, all the cars should cross the finish line at the same time. In
practice, this never happens, but you usually have some great races. I
remember one in particular on the old Ontario Motor Speedway roadcourse
where a very quick Lotus Elan held off a well driven Corvette by holding him
off in the twisty infield section. I would think something like this could
be done fairly easily in GPL. The last car to leave, the fastest qualifier,
could be the starter and time the starts of the other drivers.

ccccc, i need to be left alone to be able to stay on the track for that few
laps the online race. Not being chased or anything. GPL is hard enough
without being chased for me.

Hehe.  I usually end up chasing the field for the whole race...  I'm about 3-4
seconds slower than everyone else at Monza, so after about a lap, I'm running
by myself for the rest of the race...  I've run a 21-lap race where I saw NO
ONE after lap 2...it *sucks*.

Eldred - will work for speed...
