GPLDump is really cool!

by Andre Warrin » Sat, 22 May 1999 04:00:00

For months now I've been playing GPL, and I must have driven hundreds
and hundreds of laps on Monza. But I never get below 1:29.
I thought I was losing so much time in Parabolica and Curve Granda.
But now I've compared some 1.27 laps with mine using GPLDump and
Excel, and now I know that in Parabolica and Curve Granda I'm as fast
as the fastest drivers, but I'm loosing a little time in the first
lesmo, and LOTS of time coming out of the second lesmo.
So now I know on wich corners I have to concentrate.
Really a helpfull program!

I missed that utility.  For NASCAR2, there was a utility (telemetry2)
that had a graphic of the track and the line you took around it.  You
could drag your mouse on your line and get information such as... Speed,
G-forces, slip angles, and much more.  If this GPLDump is anything like
that, I'd like to grab a copy.  So, where do I find this utility?

Using Altavista I found it at The Fast Lane:

http://www.grandprix2.com/gpl/util.htm

there were no other hits.

now to go figure out where I'm slow... :)

Yup, makes sense.  The Lesmos are the too trickiest corners at Monza and if
you can't carry a lot of speed out of the 2nd Lesmo, you are going to be
slower through the long backstretch where you can make up a lot of time.

It's not as good as the utility for NASCAR2, but it is very helpful.
You can mainly make line diagrams of different laps, comparing the
speed of those laps in a graphical way. I find it perfect.
To use it with excel or Lotus 123:

Comparing the replay files andre.rpy and mike.rpy:

gpldump -fc -cs andre.rpy > andre.txt
gpldump -fc -cs andre.rpy > mike.txt

Then import both text files in excel and make a nice line diagram from
them.

Important:

start recording the replay file just before crossing the s/f line.
Stop recording just after passing the s/f line.

In the text file generated after using gpldump, somewhere on the 15th
line (depening on where you start recording) the line starts with 0.
This is the start of the new lap. Delete the data before this line.
At the bottom of the list is also a 0, this is the end of the lap, cut
all the data below this line.
Now you have the exact beginning to the end of the lap data for a
perfect comparisson in excel.

And by the way, since I posted the original message a couple of hours
ago, a practiced much on both lesmo's.
I'm driving constant laps of very low 1:29's now. 1:28 is coming in
sight.... finally !!!!!!
