That all depends on what type of drag racing you want to do. IHRA is more of
a sportsman based drag racing title. Since sportsman racing has way more
people involved than the NHRA top fuel and pro stock classes you could make
the argument that IHRA is more realistic. With IHRA, as with sportsman
racing, the actual driving is almost a secondary element. With a handicapped
race you must be 100% on top of your setup, weather, and track conditions so
that you can accurately set your dial in time. I'm by no means putting down
NHRA because if you only see drag racing on TV then NHRA is what you want.
The downside is TV only shows a very little portion of drag racing. Top Fuel
Dragster and Fuel Coupe are very wild classes due to their incredible
performance, but I personally love the Super Stock Classes much more. So if
you want to race what you see on TV then by all means go with NHRA, but if
you want what your local drag strip runs on Saturday Night then go with
IHRA.
