Snett67 - An Appreciation

I didn't really like GPLEA's original Snetterton.  Flat, featureless,
mechanical.  I *love* Snetterton 67!  Not because of the chicane (I could
always do w/o chicanes), but because the details--all the nooks, crannies,
angles, cambers, troughs, anomalies--make it seem so much more convincing
than any other track in GPL...including Papy's original 11.  The visual
enhancements contribute to a much deeper sense of immersion: the
beautifully rendered trees, the varied textures, the detailed objects, the
signage, the banks and berms, the early-morning fog and Bierstadt skies.  I
find myself hunting for microscopic advantages in line by moving a few
inches left or right.  For the first time, I feel like I'm racing at a real
place, not just a representation of a place.

Altogether, Snett67 is a masterpiece of track design...and not just
graphically.  The whole driving 'experience' feels so much more alive.  The
rhythm is more synchopated than the original, and the required technique
has gone from demanding rote exactitude to encouraging wild, exuberant
powerslides at almost every turn.  Accelerating flat out thru the
lefthander after Sear, topping out on Norwich, braking hard for the hairpin
yields an exhilarating sense of pure speed.  It doesn't get any better than
this.

Kudos to all involved!

P.S.  I love the AI, too!

But where are the rabbits?   ;-)

It's a great track, I'm just missing the whole funny stuff the original
track had.

Featureless?  Basil Fawlty standing across from a Lotus Cortina isn't
featureless ;)

And yes, I know, the AI is supposed to be the pits (not to be confused with
The Pits), but any AI that let's me win is aces in my book!

I'm sure that was my old Lotus (CKY 735C) sitting there with its A
bracket rear sus and alloy doors boot and bonnet. Glad its missing now
in Snett67 as I had pangs of guilt for ever selling it each time I
passed it. Maybe Basil bought it?

I must have been sleeping through the s/f as I am missing the
chichane. Yes the graphics are much improved, but I assUme the banking
is not visable.

No it isn't, but you'll notice it if you compare the old Snet and the
new Snet. A couple degrees of banking help the car stick to the road
better.
Yesterday I did some laps on Osterreichring. The first part of the
circuit is great, but then those 2 lefthanders at the end come up.
You have to take these corners much slower than you expect because
else you'll slide off the road. This just doesn't feel right.
Snet had the same problem, this has been solved in Snet67.

I wish Noonan would add some banking in the same way to Brands, Oring
and Imola.. the tracks would become so much better..
