I didn't really like GPLEA's original Snetterton. Flat, featureless,
mechanical. I *love* Snetterton 67! Not because of the chicane (I could
always do w/o chicanes), but because the details--all the nooks, crannies,
angles, cambers, troughs, anomalies--make it seem so much more convincing
than any other track in GPL...including Papy's original 11. The visual
enhancements contribute to a much deeper sense of immersion: the
beautifully rendered trees, the varied textures, the detailed objects, the
signage, the banks and berms, the early-morning fog and Bierstadt skies. I
find myself hunting for microscopic advantages in line by moving a few
inches left or right. For the first time, I feel like I'm racing at a real
place, not just a representation of a place.
Altogether, Snett67 is a masterpiece of track design...and not just
graphically. The whole driving 'experience' feels so much more alive. The
rhythm is more synchopated than the original, and the required technique
has gone from demanding rote exactitude to encouraging wild, exuberant
powerslides at almost every turn. Accelerating flat out thru the
lefthander after Sear, topping out on Norwich, braking hard for the hairpin
yields an exhilarating sense of pure speed. It doesn't get any better than
this.
Kudos to all involved!
P.S. I love the AI, too!
