Best way for 2 Installs of N2003?

by David Anders » Mon, 01 Sep 2003 10:01:54

Here is a question for you computer gurus :)
I want to try out the BETA patch so that I can play around with the
TransAm physics in N2003.  But I need to maintain my original install
and really can't afford to mess it up.  So, what is the best way to go
about getting 2 instances of N2003 (one patched and one original) on
the same hard drive.

Running Windows XP

Thanks in advance.

I would do this:

1) Install game (you've probably already done this)

2) *Copy* the game folder in it's entirety to a new folder, something
like "NR2K3_unpatched"

3) Install the patch (the installer should automatically find your
original NR2K3 folder).

After all that, you shouldmhave two complete and separate working
copies of the game.  Keep in mind that I haven't tried this myself,
but I can't think of a reason that it wouldn't work.

Just do the install as normal.  when a destination folder option appears,
re-name.  I've got mine as c:\papyrus\NASCAR Racing 2003 Season Patched
Rename the program listing aswell when prompted.

hope that helps

Dave,

you can have a bunch of the copies you just make a copy of the folder inside
the
Papyrus\ folder...  then like me I have the following in my C:\papyrus
folder...

1 "Nascar Racing 2003"  this my unpatched often used version

2 "Nascar Racing 2003-1101"  Older patch (deleting as we speak though as
dont use it anymore)

3 "Nascar Racing 2003-1102-PWF"  "beta patched version with PWF add ons
without GT  (my racing league is using it BTW)

4 "NR2003-GT"  same as #3 but separate so I dont kill the #3 if I make
mistake editing or anything...

Each has its copy of the original shortcut on the desktop, but you have to
edit the "Target" (1st line is the path to the exe) & the "start in"(second
line) in the shortcut's properties...
