Like what is GT, AGT, GTS, GT1, GT2 etc. and Prototype.  I
assume it has something to do with their power.  Prototype the
fastest?   I see this in racing events like Le Mans.

It has to do with their power and if they are available to normal buyers:

LMP900 (Le Mans Prototype) or SR1 (Sportsracing 1): most powerful open top
cars, such as the Panoz, Ferrari 333, Lola etc

LMP675 or SR1 less powerful open top cars, suchs as Tampoli, Pilbeam etc,
Lola light chassis etc

GT-1: Closed prototypes, such as the new Bentley

GT-2 : powerful cars that are based upon production cars, such as Chrysler
Viper, Porsche 911 GT2, Corvette, Lister Storm

GT-3 or GTS or N-GT: almost production cars such as Porsche 993, BMW M3 etc.
