The following is an excerpt from from an AP release.

CHICAGO (Dec 18, 1995 - 21:17 EST) -- Championship Auto Racing Teams, in a
battle with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over guaranteed starting positions
in the Indianapolis 500, will conduct its own event on Memorial Day weekend.

CART'S board of directors voted Monday to stage the U.S. 500 -- in direct
competition with the Indianapolis 500 -- on May 26. CART spokesman Adam Saal
said such marquee race drivers as Al Unser Jr., Michael Andretti and Emerson
Fittipaldi would compete in the new race at Michigan International Speedway.

       And the first round goes to the IRL.  At first offering, no
network wanted to televise the US 500 ESPN feared conflicting with it's
owner ABC's broadcast of the Indy 500.  I think race fans everywhere will
be losers in this one.  I guess Papyrus will have an easier time for
thier next sim.  Irl racing.  slow cars, no name drivers and only 4
tracks.
