Hi all
I have recently started participating in online racing (Nascar 3). This I am
finding great fun, but I am experiencing other cars disappearing. This has
caused me to wipe out fellow players (sorry ) on a couple of occasions. How
do I improve this situation or is it something that you all live with. I
suspect its my 33k modem but let me know your views

Modem 33k, AMD K6-2 350, 64Mb RAM, Voodoo3 3000, Most details turned on.

Thanks Martin U.K.

I disagree. Given a short clean route to the host, a 28.8K modem is
perfectly fine for racing N3 online. I know, because that's what I have :)

The trick is to pick your hosts carefully

You mean you actually *need* an ISDN or something to run N3 online?!?  That
sucks.  Some of us don't have that luxury yet.  I haven't even found a
provider(in DETROIT, yet).

Never argue with an idiot.  He brings you down to his level, then beats you

Baloney.  You'd be advised not to *host* with a 56K, but joining in on
races works just fine.  Watch the host, you must be picking some you
don't ping well with.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of frame rates are you getting with this
setup?

Framerates

Off the top of my head, running in 800*600 everything on, but with skid mark
buffer low. if there is little traffic about I get 31 ish most of the time,
in traffic it drops and moves from 16 to 25. Coming out of the pits for the
first time it can drop to a real stutter. Overall I am quite happy with the
rates I get.

Next time I run N3 ill take a closer look to confirm this. hope this helps,
If you want to know more detail with a specific track, condition etc. let me
know, pleased to Help.

Something else you might wanna look at: while connected, do a TRACEROUTE and
see how many "hops" it takes from your end to the host's end. This is a HUGE
problem for me because my phone service does some weird stuff before even
starting out to the internet. I have a 56k modem and with a PIII 500mhz, I
can only get 26400 or 28800 - on my clunker 75mhz with a 19.2 modem, it's
14400 ONLY. I checked my route a few times and it makes on average 18 to 20
hops; that ain't too good for racing.... I can get away with it when net
traffic isn't too bad, but it causes problems sometimes.

Good Luck
