You can get a MOMO wheel with the TSW as well for less than half the
money. And it doesn't look like a trash can sitting on top of your
desk either...

Yeah, I wondered why the magazine reviewed this model? When you can get
their excellent CDS2 for one third the price which would be more likely in
the range of folks reading reviews in a Game Magazine. I think this model
is more of what a real F1 driver might use for practice if he used a sim.

This is From a post on another NG. It tell it like it is:
; Everytime this thread starts on wheels it ends up the same
way. Everyone compares the TSW to the $1600 wheel. I don't !!I compare
it to the $600 wheel which is twice as much. Here are the real price
comparisions from the TSW web page.
#1 Basic steering and pedal unit combo with round foam grip Grant
wheel.
$320.00
#2 Same as TSW Stock with the addition of straight paddle shifters.
$395.00
#3 TSW with F1 style suede grip D-shaped wheel and T-shaped paddles.
$550.00
#4 TSW with your choice of MOMO wheels, cross-drilled T-shaped
paddles,
2 extra wheel mounted buttons, and single/dual pedal axis switch.
$655.00
Also I just got off of the phone with TSW and I asked whether the new
units come with the better pots which are listed as a $65 option. He
said no that is an option at $65 more. In addition, when you buy the
premium pots they are not covered under warranty. When I asked what
pots
are used standard and referred to the Radio Shack pots as an example,
He
said that they were the same however they get them from another
source.
So now for the basic unit with premium pots plus $25 shipping we have:
#1 Basic Unit??????????? $320 + $65 + $25 = $410
#2 w/paddles???????????? $395 + $65 + $25 = $485
#3 F1 wheel????????????? $550 + $65 + $25 = $640
#4 extra buttons, etc??? $665 + $65 + $25 = $755
The ECCI CDS2 is $665 TOTAL
The ECCI CDS2R is $789 Total
With the new CDS2, wheel travel can be easily adjusted by the user
from
170 to 240 degrees. The new CDS2 also has 5 resistance settings, two
lighter than and two heavier than the original CDS.? The CDS2 TWIN-CAM
system provides unparalleled flexibility. The system can even be set
for
asymmetrical resistance, simulating the effects of tire stagger on
steering.
These features are not even available on the TSW even at $755.They are
standard on the CDS2 for $665 Total.
To make a long story short, you will spend at least $410 for a TSW.
When
you can have a ECCI for 50% more not 5 times :)
I mentioned that Grandy, etc had the ECCI as a reference not that it
made one faster. You will find more people with the TSW because of its
cheaper price, just as you'll find even more with the T-2. It just
seems
funny that alot of racers spent $200 to $300 Per Month on Hawaii for 2
years, then settle for a $100 T-2. Alot of srious racers can benefit
from the extra cost of a ECCI. How many people on this NG will upgrade
their Video card at a cost of $150 to $250 within the next 6 months?
Alot of them will. My business is to properly inform people of the
facts, costs and benefits of computer upgrades, and I pass this info
along to the this NG for free just like Eric does.
PS: Shawn and I discussed the TSW issue in great detail before he
bought
a TSW. He loves it and mainly he wanted a stick shifter and a stiffer
resistence on the steering. The new CDS2 has the added resistance but
wasnt a option then. As far as the shifter goes, I dont want to move
my
hands off the wheel to shift. If you get the TSW with buttons then you
dont need the shifter.

I understand May is "National ***feeding" month. What do they eat, anyway?
I have an ECCI. If you think they look like junk, you best whip down
to LENSCRAFTERS with your coupons this afternoon.

In any case, I doubt that anyone could argue that they are both
excellent products. I have a TSW myself, but would happily use a CDS2
since I like the feel and build quality.
Cheers!

He added the premium pots and shipping to that 320 and got 410 which is
closer to 50%.

I know - what I was wondering was why? The TSW can be purchased for
$320, so if you're going to "tell it like it is" then I think it's
inappropriate to start adding extras and creating a false comparison.
Cheers!
John
Well I think the confusion started when someone compared the ECCI to the
"MoMo wheeled TSW" here is the original post + first response.
You can get a MOMO wheel with the TSW as well for less than half the
money. And it doesn't look like a trash can sitting on top of your
desk either...
Also it is fair to note seems both wheels are better than most and both
wheels are well liked. I also think the original poster was just saying the
CDS5000 is expensive. But it is also fair to note in the beginning of this
thread folks started comparing apples and oranges right off by comparing a
wheel with clutch pedal etc. to one that didn't.
As far as telling it like it is the extras the second poster added were
what he thought the TSW needed in the way of better pots to be comparable.
But hey like I said apples and oranges thats why we have both available :-)

It is closer to 50% if you do that, but then you're not "telling it
like it is". The TSW sells for $320, not $410.
Cheers!

I think the phrase "much ado about nothing" applies here<g> the whole
thing is rather pointless IMO. Since the CDS and the TSW each have thier
own following and are aimed at two different markets, they dont really
compare anyhow.
As for the pots, there are only so many manufacturers and the CDS uses
Clarostat I believe, we have tried 3 different types of them plus the
"mod" pot they make and they all fail. We have tried Alpha, CTS, Bournes
and others and they all fail.
Potentiometers were never designed to be constantly rotated back and
forth and they all fail in time. We are trying a new one we just found
that is supposedly good for 2 miliion plus cycles so we'll see what
happens. Sometime this year we will replace pots with optical sensors
and end the probllem for good, I hope.
As for the clutch, we do offer one. We also have Momo wheels, Momo pedal
pads, real paddle shift and also lever and button shift.
We also could build a unit just as fancy and expensive as the CDS line,
I just dont see the point in trying to cut thier throats when the market
is plenty big enough for more than one quality controller.
