N4 patch...

by Chip Walter » Mon, 14 May 2001 08:05:00

Has anyone else experienced a problem starting N4 after upgrading to the
patch.  I downloaded the patch and installed it and then my computer started
to lock up each time I tried to start the game.

So I uninstalled the game... re-installed the game and patch... and it still
does the same thing....

Any ideas?

I would suggest downloading the patch again and deleting the one you have
now. Not sure if this is going to work, but it's worth a try. Most people
who have used the patch have done so without incident, so it must be
something random on your end, like a corrupt download. Anyhow--can't hurt to
try.

I think, and am sure/hope someone will chime in here, that there are some
file names that have to be renamed in some instances. Anyone help this guy
out maybe??  I'm kinda guessing here.

Is it locking up at the splash screen (or after the intro video)

If so, check out the Target and Start-in directories of the shortcut
you are starting the game with.  The patch will chop them off, a la
DOS style.  The exe should be ......\Nascar 4 Racing.exe.  I found
that the "Start In" directory of the icon got messed up also by
installing the patch, and that was causing it to lockup at the splash
screen.

Unfortunately I don't think it was either one of those things...

I deleted the patch I had downloaded.... and then downloaded it again, but I
ended up with the same results....

And the .exe file was properly named still...

N4 patch...

I have a similar problem, since the patch, I can only run N4 after a
shutdown/restart.  Really strange.  If I go direct to N4 after bootup, no
problem.  If I run ANY program first, i.e. another game or internet
explorer, it will just freeze after clicking on the icon.  You can hear the
cd spin up but don't even get to the splash screen.  Hitting ctl-alt-del at
that point will show Nascar 4 (not responding).  I can end task my way out
but must do a reboot to get it to run.

I have to remember this one!  I can't tell you how many times I have
had to uninstall, reinstall, repatch, etc... since applying the patch!
What a mess!

Thanks for the post!
