**AWESOME!!!**Check this out.  This is easy money.  Just send a dollar
to each person on this list with the exact phrase, "Please put me on
your mailing list."  That phrase makes it completely legal.  Then, put
your name at number 6 and move everyone else up the list.  So, the
person at 6 will now be at 5 etc. etc.  Then, post this to 200
newsgroups and watch the money pour in.**

[snip chain letter]

From http://www.racesimcentral.net/

"There's at least one problem with chain letters. They're illegal if they
request money or other items of value and promise a substantial return to
the participants. Chain letters are a form of ***, and sending them
through the mail (or delivering them in person or by computer, but mailing
money to participate) violates Title 18, United States Code, Section 1302,
the Postal Lottery Statute. (Chain letters that ask for items of minor
value, like picture postcards or recipes, may be mailed, since such items
are not things of value within the meaning of the law.)"

Anyone in this chain sending money to or from an address in the US is
breaking the law, in particular the statute cited above.  Anyone forwarding
this message to anyone in the US is inciting that person to break the law,
which is also illegal.  Anyone in the chain care if the matter is brought up
with local law enforcement?  I'm sure the Bakersfield CA and Langhorne PA
police departments and USPS would be interested :)

Yeah, every law enforcement agency in the country has people just
WAITING by the phone for someone to call and tell them about someone
posting a chain letter on a newsgroup. Come on guys, why can't
everyone just ignore ***like this? You are just perpetuating the
thread....as am I....so I'll stop now.
