GPL with a GF2 GTS Pro?

by Mick » Sun, 07 Oct 2001 07:00:23

Hi,
 I just got GPL, and was wondering if there's a site with info on how to
best run GPL on a GeForce 2 GTS PRO 64MB card? My basic specs are: AMD
1G, 256MB, Abit KT7-RAID, 40G IBM ATA100, and Sound Blaster X-Gamer 5.1
along with the GF2 card. Thanks for any tips! Mick

Well, you need the current D3D renderer for GPL from www.papy.com , then
read the d3dreadme.txt that comes with the patch for the settings to put in
your core.ini.

Make sure you've renamed your core.ini.sample to core.ini as well, or GPL
won't read it.

I also have GF2 Pro and this is the settings I have in my core.ini-

[ Int Profile Values ]
value3 = Direct3D7:D3DDevice:0                  ; do not change
value4 = Direct3D7:TossHighestMip:0             ; do not change
value5 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResWidth:1       ; do not change
value6 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResHeight:1      ; do not change
value7 = Direct3D7:DirectMirrorRendering:1      ; do not change
value8 = Direct3D7:DisableZBuffer:0             ; do not change
value9 = Direct3D7:AlphaThreshold:240           ; do not change
value10 = Direct3D7:TransparentMipsDrawOrder:0  ; do not change
value11 = Direct3D7:TrilinearFiltering:1        ; do not change
value12 = Direct3D7:AnisotropicFiltering:0      ; do not change
value13 = Direct3D7:LODBias:-50                 ; do not change

[ Direct3D7 ]
D3DDevice = 0
TossHighestMip = 0
DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
DisableZBuffer = 0
AlphaThreshold = 1
TransparentMipsDrawOrder = 1
TrilinearFiltering = 1
AnisotropicFiltering = 8
LODBias = -50

Also, you may want to turn the detail slider bar in GPL to somewhere between
50% and 75%, depending on whether you run with 3d wheels or not (which are a
big drain).  That all depends on how many AI cars you race against, I like
to have >30 fps for race starts vs a full field.

Get the opengl patch from Papy, that is the best way to run the GF2 cards.
Make sure you have anti aliasing and vsynch off.  Also use 16bit color.

I've run GPL on both the Opengl rendering and the D3D rendering and
D3D is better than OpenGL for GPL. IM, and others, opinion.

  if you don't mind blurry mirrors bogging your framerate down, got for
opengl.  But if you like supersharp images in those mirrors, and usually
better framerates..try the d3d patch.

(talking out the side of my mouth since I've never used the opengl patch and
don't own an nvidia yet.)

Hi darrin..isn't there a problem with open gl and the gf cards? I know there
is with the gf3. Any info would be appreciated.

As stated in Eric cote's sim racing mag review on the gf3...you can use it
one time then upon exiting the track the screen goes black and now it it's
over. wish there was a fix for this.
