in the promo of GP4 :=

"...*Brand new graphics engine, featuring: -

* Hardware transform and lighting.
* Full screen anti-aliasing.
* Environment mapped cars.
* Environment sourced reflections in wet surfaces.
* Bump mapped perturbance (heat haze) from engine heat.
* TV-style timings, with ability to record,
fast-forward, rewind and pause 90 mins of action.
* Brand new physics engine.
* Improved AI since Grand Prix 3 Season 2000.
................"

notice "brand new graphic engine / improved AI"
was used in GP2.5
which turned out to be EXACTLY a GP2

Take a look at the GP4 video then come back and tell me it's
a GP2/GP3 engine.

Cheers,
Rod.

Hmmm, it's pretty obvious that it is.

A fool I must be. Obviously there will be similarities in the
engine which stands to reason if it's coded by the same guy, but
comparing what the GP2 and GP3 engine does, it seems a complete jump
ahead. The footage I viewed is completely unlike the GP2/GP3 I've
been playing the last few years.

Cheers,
Rod.

Weird, I really have a sense of dj vu, but that's not necessarily a bad
thing.  The only shots that gave a different impression were those airbox
shots pointing down to the front of the car.  They were definitely more
dynamic, but that's just the angle and the FOV of the camera.  But looking
how the car reacted to the ground, how it's obviously AI drivers keeping the
same precise and perfect line during some shots, and how the***pit shots
just scream for the same, I wouldn't say it's different at all.  In fact
GP2000 looks almost as good as what we saw in that video, I say.  It still
even has the same lighting type than Gp3 and Gp2.

Graphically, perhaps. But notice the setup screens... they look different,
but still use the same old imaginary units. The startline accident at the
beginning looks suspicious too. Animated pitcrews do not a better simulation
make.

Not enough for me to dismiss the claims outright, but I'm sceptic. Then
again, each time one compiles a program, one creates a "brand new"
executable, doesn't one? ;-)

Agreed

GP2 looked the same as GP3 which looks the same as GP4.

Granted - there are some improvements - but only that - improvements - not
the complete overhaul we've been promised each time.

The graphics are in the same style as Gp2/3, but look more rounded and
fuller.  I'd have expected a more visual change (ala something akin to F1RS
lovely voodoo'd eye candy) but the game play is paramount and nothing I've
played beats the GP series.  And I don't play online or multiplayer...
Book
PS - GP32000 was a vast improvement over GP3 both in gameplay and new
features like the 3d sound (much better than gpxpatch) and collision damage
with debris.  Although gpxpatch gave you much more info on the race than
the, sorry Geoff, ***steering wheel display, unless it now changes like
IndyCar could.
