Interest in AWBHC development - at last!

Well, here's a thing. You may remember me posting some ideas for an
Auto Windscreens British Hillclimb Championship (AWBHC) sim in this
NG not so long ago. The general consensus was that it was a good idea,
but would sell even less well than GPL. So I figured, too.

BUT... a few hours ago I got an e-mail from the boss of a small British
software company (and I mean small - this isn't Codemasters by any
means!) expressing an interest in developing it. It's very early days
yet, and there's still only a slim chance of commercial production, but
this bloke (I'll call him Verence, as that sounds vaguely like the
surname of a friend of mine who has a brother with the same first name
as this bloke - sorry about all this secrecy, but that's commercialism
for you) sounds reasonably enthusiastic, and likes hillclimbing himself
(which could be a double-edged sword, I admit).

Anyway, Verence's e-mail says, roughly speaking:

blah blah blah original and interesting concept blah blah variety blah
obtain relevant licences blah blah negotiations soon to be initiated
blah range of parties blah Auto Windscreens blah blah blah blah
advanced graphics engine blah blah mid-range systems blah blah blah
force feedback blah blah blah lots of legal gunk (yes, I do have the
right to post this - I checked!).

So, fingers crossed. Even if it's never released, it might just get as
far as beta testing. So they'll want testers - I'll keep you posted.

Really made my day, this has!

The best thing for such a thing would be console-based, Im absolutely sure.
I could see the potential in such a title, much higher than on the PC.

Two points I think are in order here:

1) I think a console version would be a disaster. The game needs to have good
force feedback, a solid graphics engine that could be adapted for future games,
and, most importantly, the ability to add third-party addons. One of the things
I am negotiating about is how we could get some sort of official sanction for
various sorts of editors (especially a track editor - I'm currently thinking
along the lines of a fairly simple "set the length, drag the corners, set the
gradient, width and camber" program, though it might be possible to extend it
later.

and...

2) You *did* check the date on my post, didn't you? ;-) Gotcha! (I suppose I
should have cancelled it at noon, really...)
