NFSPU & "Moby Dick"

NFSPU & "Moby Dick"

I posted this a couple nights ago, but the server I posted from must
have filtered it out... I'll try again...

I just realized that I don't have the Moby*** car anymore!
It happened one night after severall Budweisers... I fired up the
game to see how far I could advance myself in the evolution mode -
Golden Era, I believe. Zone Industriale and the downhill portion of a
case of Bud don't mix very well. "Damn! I wrecked the***out of my car

*that* time! Next time I'll do better..."
Into the garage I go, screaming at the mechanics to fix my
dismembered Porsche. "I don't care what it costs! Get it fixed... I'll
pay you with my winnings!"
Cracking open another beer, I set it on the coaster next to my
computer. Three-plus minutes later I'm back in the garage. "Those
bastards!" I scream. "Max this baby out! We'll get em now!"
Again, a few minutes later I'm back in the garage. This happens
maybe a dozen times, with my earnings down to nil. Out of desparation, I

must sell a car. Moby***. That would fetch me big money. Besides, now
that I've unlocked it I can use it anytime in single-player mode.
"Cha-ching!" Plenty of money now...
Over the next week or so I complete the main portion of Evolution
mode. Then recently I read a post or two commenting on the Moby***
car. Nastalgia gets the best of me so I  fire up the game in
single-player mode & search for the 'Dick. "Sonofa***! I lost my
'Dick!!!" Thinking back to that night, I curse the beer in my hand and
slam it down my throat. "If I gotta go thru this whole evolution mode
again... Man will I be pissed!"
How can I get this car back?!? I looked for one in the used cars
but came up empty handed. Tell me there's a way around this (other than
doing it again w/o the beer). *sobbing*  H-h-h-elp me?

LOL!  ROTFPP!  Great story -- sounds somewhat familiar, too...<G>

Remember, the used car market remains EXACTLY the same UNLESS you buy
and sell (your purchases and sales creates actual activity on the
simulated "market").  The Moby only appears during a narrow timeframe
(sometime in the "Golden" era, I think?), so if you're into the
"Modern" era, you may never see one.  I know haven't seen one on the
used market since completing Evolution Mode, but I've been playing
around with the various rallys and club events and such with all the
cars I've purchased, just trying to see how much money I can earn -- I
was up to $4.5 million before my profile became corrupted just days
ago, and the "fixsave" file hasn't helped. :-(

REMEMBER:  Back up your user .sav file REGULARLY to prevent this kind
of thing (I grew careless and I didn't have any backups newer than the
Golden Era).

So, if you're into the Modern Era, you may have to do what I'm doing --
I'm using some of the profile cheats to give myself a ton of money so I
can zip through Evolution Mode and quickly rebuild my stable of cars
back to its previous level.

Hope this helps!

-Precisely why I bought a lot of 356's in the 50s when they were cheap. I can
sell in 80's for a good amount of $$.
You might need a "crack" to get your Moby back.....

You might need to go to the industrial zone and *sell* some crack...

The Moby does in fact show up on the used car market occasionally.  You'll
need a couple mill to buy it of course.
Prolly smarter just to get the savegame where you own all the cars.

Ok... First I lose my 'Dick, now you mention profile corruption and *BINGO*!

Continuing after I select my goddamn player file suddenly snaps the game
back to windows... WTF is the "fixsave" file, and where can I get it?
I finally break myself of playing GPL during my every free moment, then
this game starts kickin me in the 'nads. Whassup wit dat?!?

I proceeded through the goden era and was then ready to start the race for
the Moby.  It was realllly late, so I quit for the night, not wanting to try
the one-shot race with tired eyes.  When I started the next day, I was at
the modern era, with no chance to race for the Moby.  Boo hoo.  I had to
scrape together 450,000 to buy one, which meant parting with a few old
favourites, and also dealing like a madman on the used car market.  In the
end, I find the Moby an unsatisfying car to drive, but keep it anyway as it
"completes" my collection, especially in Martini Racing colours.  Actually,
the whole Modern Era leaves me cold.  I like having the extra tracks, but I
keep going back to the classic and golden era cars, as they are much more
"lively" on their suspensions and need to be driven with more precision.

Don't you all wish EA had snuck in at least one proper circuit course with a
narrower road and a variety of corner speeds?  Oh well, a small flaw in an
otherwise fun product.

You can find the NFSPU "Fixsave" program here:

http://game13.gamesmania.de/tools.htm

It's only an 84K download, so it's easy even if you're on a modem.
Hope this helps!
