Operation Sports, the best on-going review of N3, posted twelve
screenshots of Indy Motor Speedway, thus ending the debate whether The
Brickyard will be in N3.  Check it out at:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
My only question is will the scoring pylon realistically track
positions.

When I die, I hope they bury me at Wal-Mart so my wife will visit me

OMIGOSH -- they've even got the Speedway's new control tower (the "Pagoda")
shown in it's current, under-constuction state!  Very, VERY nice attention
to detail.  They've even moved (well, removed, it seems) the water tower,
which was in the wrong position in the ICR2 add-on pack.  Better to not have
a detail than to have it in the wrong place -- and I don't believe that the
water tower is visible from the track itself.  Again, good attention to
detail.  Kudos, Papy.  I may have to buy N3 after all.

Now, WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE MAKE A N3 TO ICR2 CONVERTER?!?!?!

Why John?  The ICR2 cars won't be racing there for at least another
year or two..??  :)  :)  Sorry couldn't resist...we don't need THAT
thread fired up again...

You are correct John, you can't see the Water Tower from the
track.  You can see it from the middle of the infield or if
you are on the outside of the track.  But not on the track
itself.

I also liked the Pagoda in the game.  It looks a lot like it
does at this very moment.  I went out to the sppedway last
week just to see the progress.  That's going to be pretty
impressive when they get it finished.

I'm guessing that you are also a Hoosier by your comments.
Mail me sometime, if you'd like to talk IRL ;-)  It's hard
to find many IRL fans, even in the state..LOL

Also, thank you to CDRome for the kind words.

Is it just me or does the in-car view of the scoring pylon look hazzy? Or is
that a new effect that papy has added to the in-car view, to the window? The
rumble strips are a nice effect as well, I wonder if we will be able to feel
them, driving over them I mean.

Car textures are way to smeary.  Looks like a first generation card like the
Voodoo vs. one of the newer ones from nVidia, Matrox or the like.

I think it is from compression of the screenshots. There are compression
artifacts all over those screenshots and they look like shit.

On Mon, 13 Sep 1999 23:01:25 -0400,

Yep. The screenshots are only 30-40K, probably 65-70%
compression. I would expect an 85% (decent) compressed
.jpg to have been around 70-80K.

The hood, though, looks -real bad- in the roofcam and head-on
views, and I'm not sure the whole problem is compression.
Apparently they have chosen to use the tiny car textures as
they always have and stretch them (blur them) to fit in the
800x600/1024x768 resolution.

[sigh]

BTW, check out the flagman with the really short legs

 ;)

I'll still be first in line.
