I had the same glitch with my GP1 until I read here about this stuff called
"Tuner Control".  It's a spray cleaner/lubricant you get at Radio Shack for
$8 a can.  I sprayed it into the pots, and this black gook came out of the
pots.  After I pluggged the wheel back in I recalibrated it and had no more
jerks in the steering.  Works good.

Hmmm, I guess I've tried everything else so I might as well give it a
try!

I had to replace my steering wheel pot after about a year or so.  I play N2
quite a bit.  Call Thrustmaster and order some spare parts.  (Pots, springs
.....etc.) They are nice to have around. (Especially if you race in a
league)
Good Luck.

If it doesn't, you might as well try what I have done. Mine was
jittering to the right, in a rather straonge way: when I start turning
right, the cross went right as it should have, but at around 50% right
it suddenly gave a spike towards the center, then went to the right
again. Needless to say that accurate driving was impossible, I had to
drive on the middle of the track.
I tried to use all cleaners/lubricants I could find (no WD-40 in
France where I live), tried to flood the pot with *** - to no
avail. A strange thing I noticed is that when I turned the pot by
itself it gave me no spikes, they came back when I put the wheel back
together :) I am positive there was no play between the wheel shaft
and the pot, they were fixed together very strongly. I almost forked
out a lot of cash on a TSW or F1 Sim (and would have bought it if the
Brits were not so strong about Europe as to make me pay UK VAT ;) -
the Melbourne race was approaching and I almost didn't know the
track:)
Then I did what I thought to be a heresy: I removed the thick black
bungee cord from around my wheel. The spike disappeared instantly. It
took me only a few minutes to readapt to the lack of resistance, I can
control the car even more precisely than when the T2 was new. Hey, I'm
driving a steering-assisted race car, and from the on-board cameras it
doesn't look drivers apply any effort to turn their wheels. Well, it
doesn't center itself at all, but does it in a real racecar? (even if
it does I don't care :)

Try it, you can always put the bungee cord back later.
