i can't get CONTROL PANEL anymore

by Guy C?t » Mon, 25 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Friday morning i received what it's supposed to be a great gamecard (
PDPI L4 ) and since i try to install it properly, i have a lot of
problems.

The biggest problem i have right now it's about the fact that i can't go

anymore in my Win95 CONTROL PANEL.

Each time i tried to access i have this message: Program error
not enough space for environment. And i should reboot everytime.

Actually my PDPI L4 is removed and i replug my Thrusmaster T1 in my SB
Live gameport but i can't recalibrate it because i can't access anymore
to my win95  CONTROL PANEL.

So what's wrong with my computer and what could ( should ) i do to be OK

?????

Thanks in advance

you can add more environment space by adding the following  into config.sys
shell=c:\command.com /e:512 /p

if 512 is not enough change it to 1024. Sounds like your pdpi set some
variable in your configuration file(s). No big deal....Good luck.

You can try searching in C:\windows\system for files that have the .cpl
extension.  These are the files that create the icons and open as applets in
Control Panel.  It sounds like there is a misbehaving one, probably
installed by the installer for your new card.

Try to figure out what each one might be, or right click on it and choose
'properties'. It will tell you what each one is for on the 'version' tab.
You might also find that the file you want has the same date as the day you
installed the card, whereas most of them will have the same date as the rest
of the Windows files  (7/11/95= Win95  5/11/98= Win98)

When you find it, change the extension (or just delete the whole thing) and
then try and start control panel.

Seems like Control Panel might be *** on the applet installed by the
card and maybe it won't have that probelm if you remove the source this way.

Hope this helps,

Thank you very much because indirectly i thinked to right click on
joy.cpl and choose open with control panel.

EUREKA, it worked great. So now my Wheel/Pedals is calibrated now !!

!!

I figure if I can actually be helpful now and again it buys me license to be
rude, snide and insulting once in a while.  Something about karma, probably.

Glad I could help you out!
