GPL65: can't get away quickly

by Dave Weave » Sun, 02 May 2004 05:40:02

I've just install the wonderful 1965 mod for GPL (congrats to the
developers by the way - it's extremely well done!), but I'm having a
bit of a problem.

(Caveat: I'm a complete novice driver with no driving skill and little
setup knowledge!)

Using the default setups (and I don't know enough to start safely
fiddling with the car setups) I have no "oomph" at all in low gears
(using the standard car, not the trainers). In a race with AI set to 90%
when the starting flag drops all the other cars get away well, but my
car is left struggling to pull away, as though I've started in 5th gear
or something. I can't even spin the wheels (something that is all too
easy in the default '67 cars!) if I just floor the throttle in 1st gear
(throttle help is off),

Am I doing something silly?  Help!

Cheers,
Dave.

The default setups you are using are made for the 67 cars, not the 65's.
Go to http://forum.rscnet.org/ and in the gpl forum, get some 65 setups.

I was beginning to suspect as much! Thanks.

Got a link to the setups? I've just spent ages scanning the forums and
haven't found any concrete setups yet. Can't even see a search option in
the forums, which would help!

Cheers,
Dave.

Try here - look under 'Latest Files' in the middle of the page. That's where
I got my first sets from and they feel quite nice to me. (Also a bit of a
duffer when it comes to GPL!)

Thanks for the reply, but that URL just gives me a small page
about Ayrton Senna, with no mention of GPL, latest files, or setups ...

However, after a good nights sleep, I've been back to the rsc forums
and have now managed to find some setups.

For anyone else who's looking, try this thread:

(those 2 lines above should be joined into one URL)

Cheers,
Dave

Sticky post right at the top of the GPL forum. There's attached files
with setups in them.

Whoa! That makes rather a lot of difference. It's a shame the mod doesn't
have a way of installing & selecting appropriate setups for you, but you
can't have everything I guess... not for free anyway :-)

Did you try that today? (Sunday) If so, I'm guessing that's because it's 10
years today...
Try again tomorrow - it worked for me yesterday.
Alternatively, I'll send you the files I downloaded from there - let me know
if you want them. (53k)

Rick.
