This sounds like the typical USB drivers bug.....it takes many forms....this
is one of them.
You didn't tell us what hardware and system specs you have, but my guess is
you have an Intel platform.....since the problem doesn't seem to be as
prevalent on AMD platforms (AMD platform USB implementation uses different
chipset drivers than does Intel).
Here's what you can do:
1. If you have an Intel mobo.....go update your chipset drivers for it
(Intel website).
2. Search the MS KB for USB patches (for Win98SE) for your control systems
(I know for sure there is one for TM NAS Pro Digital-2 USB controllers).
3. If none of this solves the problem (I'd give #1 and/or #2 a 90% chance
that it will, however), then uninstall all of your controllers. Do a
"registry search-and-clean" of all entries related to your
controllers....also do the same with your c:\drive files and folders (you
should be able to get a file name list for all your controller driver files
via DXDiag...or contact the controller manufacturer). Once done, install
your primary controller. Then install each of the other secondary
controllers one at a time (uninstalling each one......so that only two
controllers are listed in your Control Panel ID at any time....the
primary....and one of the secondaries).......testing for the problem with
each secondary you add. If #1 and/or #2 didn't fix the problem....then its
one of your controller drivers causing it....this is the only way to find
out which one. Then.....go to that manufacturer....report the problem and
see if they have updated drivers available.
I know this is a hassle.....but your problem won't just go away without
taking the steps above.
I haven't had this issue for over a year now.....perhaps there's an easier
solution available now? Can anyone who has more current knowledge of this
issue....add anything....or give Roy more updated suggestions? My
information, personally.....is from experience of more than a year
ago....but I have continued to read of this problem as recently as last week
(don't remember where)......so if anyone can provide more current
information for Roy....that would be great.
What a hassle.....I know....I had it too.
Regards,
Tom

| Are you able to use the Quickjoy utility to set controller IDs? Just a
| thought...
