GP3 - I've Given Up!

by Paul Jage » Tue, 01 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Can't remember the last time I had so much disappointment from a game, but I
have given up on GP3.

I should have guessed from the problems I had just loading the game. From
their it just got worse - problems with my MSFF wheel, it won't recognise my
12mb V2 running in SLI. Even when I can run it on a single V2 card the cars
feel somehow wrong, almost detached from the surroundings (the single engine
sound does not help matters).

Sorry to whinge, but I haven't felt so low about a sim for so long. Oh well
back to GPL.

Making changes was the first thing I did to the card.txt file (thanks to
reading this NG, and then the readme file). But, no luck, and I understand
that I am not the only one with this problem. Ho hum.

All of this stuff was mentioned here before you bought the
game you know...

I know that these problems were mentioned here before, but I am ever the
optimist! I never appreciated the full extent of the problems until I
actually tried the game myself. But now I'm left taking a long walk back to
Electronic Boutique to return this abomination.

Just as a side line, I popped into my local newsagent at lunch time and
flicking through PC Gamer I noticed they gave GP3 95%. What!!!!!!!! How can
I ever trust this publication again?

Maybe their test system is running properly and yours
is not? Just kidding, once you get a better vidcard, you
might wanna try GP3 again.

You could be right. I hadn't discounted that possibility. Perhaps I am
annoyed because I thought that a SLI V2 combination was still a relatively
good graphics set up and GP3 should have been compatible with it. Other
games are. Oh well we with and learn.

Computer *** World gave Cart Precision Racing a whopping
5 start (100%). IMHO GP3 is probably closer to 95% than CPR
is to 100%. If you know what I mean.

It still sucks though.

Ok, 2 little things:
1. I hope card.txt was a type; you need cards.txt
2. There's a patch out for the V2. Find it!
3. The MSFF, well, that's shit yeah.
