Why no off-road games with big jumps ???

by Loosa » Sat, 08 Apr 2000 04:00:00

With the exception of the archaic "Soda Racing" and Rallycross on the
Playstation, there are not any decent off-road supercross type truck or car
racing games. I love the challenge of dealing with properly landing big
motocross style jumps with a 4 wheel vehicle, or dealing with lack of traction
and having to find the fastest line through a turn. The changing nature of a
dirt course offers an additional challenge not present on road courses.
Unfortunately, the best off-road game I have ever played was Rallycross on the
playstation, and that game is pretty old. Where are the sim-like off road
racers for the PC ?

There is a new one coming out called "Leadfoot" (I think).  It is made by
wizardworks and will be a stadium racer type effort (much like Iron Man's
Offroad Racing!).  It looks pretty good and wizardworks made Dirt Track
Racing! :)

SODA off road racing from Sierra was a great title with big jumps. Boy

I miss my rendition card.  Does anyone know if anyone devised a patch
to get decent framerates and good graphics with a V3 card with SODA ?

Ok, maybe I'm just being fussy here, but I like to give credit where credit
is due.

Wizard Works didn't make DTR, they published it. Ratbag made DTR.

You wouldn't say, " I just read Walden by Bantam books."  No, you'ld say, "
I just read Walden by Henry David Thoreau."

Actually, you might say, "What the hell is Walden and who is Thoreau?" Kids
these days.

Anyway, all WW did is press the CD's and ship it to the stores, they had no
part in the actual writing of the game.

Monster Truck Madness 2. Hundreds of tracks, good graphics and a couple
hundred online racers at the Zone. Even if you're not into monster trucks,
it's very good online racing action. But watch out for the GTX team, they're
fast ;)

Give Colin McRae rally a try - dated graphics but great driving.

Actually, Ratbag Games is the company that developed Dirt Track Racing
-- Wizard Works was just the publisher.  Ratbag is also doing Leadfoot,
but it hasn't been confirmed whether or not Wizard Works will be on-
board as the publisher yet.

This should give you an idea of what it's going to be about:

Try my "Swiss Alps" track sometime if you can. KC has it on his site. It's
set up like an F1 track.
