I need to know before I buy.

I have a friend who has a video card that he is going to see me when he gets a
new computer for $25.00.

It is a Diamond Stealth 4mb 3d card. [I don't have all the specs in front of
me.]

My system:
Compaq Presario 4505
P-166
32 mgs RAM

I was wondering if this will help my framerates, run the 3d version, the
rendition version etc., of NR1999, or would I be better off buying something
else? I really don't want to spend a lot of money if this will suffice. I am
pretty happy with NR1999 in 2d as it is, but I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance.

I second that advice,

If it's not the Rendition V2100 chipset on the Diamond Stealth 220, don't
waste your money.

Depends on which one it is.  If it's a Stealth II S220, it's well worth $25 for
your needs.  If it's a older Stealth 3D, then pass.  Better 2D than the Stealth
II, but the 3D's not much, and it's not a Rendition-based card.

Buy some more RAM first.
If you want good results from a video card at least have the ram to run it. 128
min.

Sounds like it is an Diamond stealth with the S3 virge chip set, its ok for 2D but
forget the 3D it is hopeless I had one.
Now Ive got a 16 meg banshee now thats a good 3d card not the best but is cheap if
you live in the USA...

So if I buy a Diamond Stealth IIS220 PCI that will suffice? Is it a Rendition
card? And a 3d one?

Thanks

Don't be so patronising, it's ***y obvious that he's responding to
SteveBlank's answer.
