***y hell, I know I'm real late but after playing GP500 I can only say
that I've never been hooked on a game like this since GP2. I'm not even into
motorbikes that much, but WOW!

Anyway, I'll get more wingy "Oh Papy could do an even better job if they
wanted" but Microprose in my opinion are ***y fantastic when it comes to
sims I must say, its just been a while since we got one from them:-)

I agree with you i some ways.

However, I struggle to see why anyone would say "Microprose would make a
better sim if they wanted to"

WHAT THE HELL..

Any publisher / writer etc is going to produce the very best sim that it
can at any time, so as to maximise sales...do you think their STUPID.

JESUS..people are dumb

The original poster actually suggested others would say "Oh Papy could do an
even better job if they wanted" - referring to a perceived view that many on
this newsgroup believe Papyrus (Papy) to be greatest auto simulation
software writers of the present time. So with limited resources if they
chose to do a bike sim...

Depends on the definition of best. Product quality and sales do not
necessarily go hand in hand. Marketing decisions will override technical
ones in the majority of cases. To make deadlines and reduce the cost of
development, games companies will often cut back on their grand plans to hit
the shelves.

So in reality there will almost always be a compromise between what they
could have produced compared with releasing the software to realise some
revenue.

Additionally in many cases the technically "best" is not the greatest
seller.

do you think [they are]/[they're] STUPID

Cheers

Not necessarily so.
They will produce what they predict will bring income.  This doesn't
automatically mean that it is "the best that they can do".
There are plenty of examples of such thinking.
