OT: different GT classes?

by cyclon » Tue, 04 Feb 2003 11:51:41

Hi

I've just downloaded and starting playing GTR2002.  Is there somewhere that
details the different GT classes, and rules etc?  (Real world not the sim if
you know what I mean).

Or any interesting links for real world GT class racing?

Do a google search for FIA GT  and that should return enough results to
get you started.

If memory serves, there are 4 classes, GT1, 2, 3, and X?

X is like everything goes, prototype, things like that.

Strangely, I can't find links that explains the rules and
such. The FIA site is broken and all they got are long
and tedious PDF documents that doesn't explain anything.

Two types of rules: FIA and ACO.

ACO rules for Le Mans and the ALMS.

FIA for FIA Grand Touring Championship.

ACO: LM-Prototypes  LMP900 and LMP675 (standing for minimum weight 900kg and
675kg, cars like Audi R8, Panoz LMP001, Bentley EXP8), GTS (similar to GT in
FIA, cars like Corvette, Saleen, Ferrari F550-GT) and GT (similar to N-GT in
FIA, cars like Porsche 911 GT3-RS, Ferrari F360)

FIA: Until 1998 there was a GT1-class (for cars like McLaren F1-GTR,
Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM and CLK-GTR, Porsche 911 GT1, today Bentley EXP8 would
also count into this class),  GT2 (Dodge Viper, Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari
F550-GT) and GT3 (Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari F355). GT1-class was banned from
FIA-GT after the 1998 season. From then on former GT2 was the top-class. GT2
was renamed to GT, GT3 changed to N-GT.

There isnt an X-class.

Yes, the pdf-files are very confusing.
www.gtracing.net is the official website of FIA Grand Touring Championship.

Hope I could explain a litte bit.
Greetings
Stephan
