Ok, lets say you all were building a new racing game/sim. What parts of
current games should be kept, and what can be disposed of? also what should
be added that does not exist in any sims/games right now ?

Ok let's see.

For keepers:
- The obvious: GPL's physics (or better?)
- RC2K's rally stages. (with better pace notes)
- Graphics... Hmmm, still nothing I really like out there. Perhaps
something like CD-I's golf in full 3D?
- The feel I get from Viper racing that it has been made by pure racing
enthusiasts.
- And, well, the price of viper racing :-). Even though I would have
paid twice as much for a sim like GPL. This one was really cheap if I
consider playing time per buck!
- Damage modeling of Viper racing and GPL combined. Jeez, there is a lot
of viper here. I should start racing that more often again.
- Incar sounds of Network Q RAC rally championship.
- Car and track info like in NFSSE. Or a track discription per corner as
you are viewing someone driving the track.

Redirect to the trash bin:
- Ingame music.
- So called 'gameplay enhancements'.
- The misleading 'best simulator ever' text on game boxes.
- Way over due realease dates.
- Bad technical support.
- Software piracy
- Microsoft.

Why would you want a track editor on a sim? A sim is based on real life tracks, not some
fantasy in your head.

Real game physics and internet play is a must

For the last part, there is no doubt that TRACK EDITORS should be a
vital component of any future racing release...I really don't understand why
nobody has any in any of their games...

A track editor would be great! I could reproduce a few of the local
area tracks. race a few places that other users might not care about.

oh man!  why NOT a track editor...
ever raced Mt Panorama from Australia?  Ever Run a real Daytona?(not a
repainted Talledega?)  Monza with the banking?  A track editor is the be
all end all of realism.

An easy-to-use car-shape editor would be great.  If that, and a track-editor, were available in
GPL I could, by now, be racing the 1.5 litre cars of the 1960-1965 era on tracks such as Reims
and banked Monza.  I could also be racing Can-Am cars of the 1960s-1970s at Elkhart Lake etc.

Everyone wins with this type of package:  the publisher extends the life of a product when the
customer buys the editor.

I'd keep the round wheels and wheel wells form Monster Truck Madness 2. This
game is getting old, but somehow manages to have round tires that are
completely exposed and rotate. Most sims have squared off tires and wells.
The detail is very good. You can make new trucks, the suspension works too,
and also make tracks. One guy even made track textures using actual pictures
of concrete pilings, etc. All this, and frame rates as high as 125 fps. Oh,
and I'd use the multplayer interface from this game too. Its the most
intuitive of any sim I've seen. How long has this game been out, 2 or 3
years? It just shows what can be done.

So...maybe you could input a 'real life track' that isn't *in* that particular
sim...?
