PC was unable to locate the CDROM even though it was able to install
OK from it.
Turns out they're using a copy protection scheme that is incompatible
with CD writers (mine's a Yamaha CRW4416s). The tech's best
suggestion was that I go out and *buy* a plain vanilla CD drive to run
the game from or take the game back for a refund. To add weight to
GT's position he suggested that this copy protection scheme is
up-and-coming and that most games yet to be published will be using
this scheme.
Although I can understand why they may not want CDRW users burning
copies of their CD, this seems like a poor idea if it excludes us from
actually using the game we've paid our money for (short of shelling
out for a redundant CD drive just to play GT interactive games). If
the packaging had stated that it will not work with a CDRW I could
have passed on the game before wasting my time & money.
So ... has anyone else tripped up over this? Did you find a way round
it? (Has this been FAQ'ed to death already?) Is this protection
scheme a fine idea & I'm just in a disgruntled minority?
Your comments please
