Racing the driver behind me?

I just completed a race in Nascar 2 last night, and my spotter called
out to me a few time and I don't know what he's talking about.  What
does he mean by "You're racing the car behind you"?  As far as I'm
concerned, I racing the one ahead of me!
Also, what does the bell sound mean?  I heard it a few times at the
Rock last night running a 25% race.

It means the driver behind you is on the same lap, and trying to pass you
for position.

Racing the man behind you is telling you that someone is making a move
on you and they are not a lap down. As for the bell I have no clue I
heard it too at C***te.

Do you have your computer set to chime every hour? I'm not aware of any
bell sound in the game proper, but Win95 could still be doing who knows
what behind the scenes...

I doubt it's a defualt chime. It happens to me whenever I get real real
close to another car. Everytime. It's like a waringing that your
getting to close. Hasn't everybody heard this?

If you have ever listened to a scanner at a Winston Cup race, you would
recognize this noise.  It is a squeal that you get from interference when
you key the mike on a 2 way radio.  Yes, it's more realism.  After all,
that's the whole point to every aspect of this sim.  Just like bein'
there.

I think it's there on purpose.  Sounds just like it does on my scanner
at the track.

But, be careful, if the guy behind you wants to move up a position you
had better be racing him also.  All the spotter is doing is letting you
know that the car behind you is on the same lap as you and would
certainly like to get around you.
