Do YOU have any ideas to improve MS-C:P.R. ?

by Mike McCloske » Wed, 24 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I'm going to be sending a letter to TRI with ideas on how to improve CPR.
This letter is more aimed at the little things that would help improve the
game, and at bringing smaller bugs they may not have noticed to their
attention.  TRI is already aware of the most major shortcomings of the game
(framerate, lack of yellows) and bugs (rain tires)

PLEASE don't send me ideas/bugs that have been re-hashed repeatedly in RAS,
because TRI is already aware of these.  For more info, and to send your
ideas/bug report to me, head on over to The CART Precision Racing
Playground at http://www.racesimcentral.net/
and click on "TRI Letter" in the frame.  Thanks for your input!

It is absolutely essential that they model the weight shift forward
when braking that makes the car loosen up slightly at turn in, as in
real life, GP2, N2, ICR2, ect.  The way the car always pushes when
braking in MS CART is exactly the opposite of the way it should be

I "think" it pushes because your lockin' the brakes up.

I think the brakes lock just a little to easy.  I have a T2 and I can't
press the brake pedal down very far before the tires lock.  I have moved the
brake bias toward the rear and it helped a little but not enough.  If I had
more use of the break pedal, I could be more precise in my braking.

Microsoft should send a $30.00 rebate check to every one of us sorry ***s
who were sucked in my their X-Mas Marketing Blitz.  Nothing like dropping
$60.00 on a game that isn't even out of beta.

I hate to sound critical.  I've tried playing this game for the past 3 weeks
and simply cannot tolerate the cartoonish graphics, horrible AI, unrealistic
layouts on tracks I've personally been to and bugs galore.  The promised track
tour/racing school videos are incomplete and the manual is a joke.

Shame on me-I bought the game!!  Even after being disappointed by the demo, I
was stupid enough to buy this game!  Well-half a game should be bought at half
the price.  A $30.00 rebate offer and/or a Microsoft sponsored return program
(since the store I purchased it at wont take returns) would be preferable and
the "right thing" for Microsoft to do.

If this was a car or any other product, Microsoft would have been sued for
releasing sub-standard, clearly defective product.  I've yet to understand how
consumer protection laws/regulations that appear to encompass most manufactured
products sold in the U.S. do not seem to apply to the nebullous world of
software.

It's like purchasing a newly relaeased hardcover book for $35.00 only to find
out that half the pages are blank.  Or driving your new car off the lot and
learning that the transmission only has 1st gear.  You want to improve this
product?  One simple recommendation..........

I really like the hardcover book analogy.  Maybe half the pages aren't
missing in CPR, but there are so many blank pages that it ruins the
"story line".

Number 1, MS has a 30 day money back guarantee (it's printed on
the box, so don't let the store you bought it from tell you they won't
take it back...) I suggest you use it. Even if it's been 31 or 32 days
since you bought it, I'm sure they'd take it back if you raise a big
enough stink (hint: keep asking for the supervisor of whoever you
are talking to until you get results). But, I'm not even sure it's been
out 30 days, so you're safe...

Number 2, if you already knew about the money back guarantee,
and still choose not to return the game, quit complaining about it.

Number 3, where do you shop?? I've seen the game for $45 at Circuit
City and $40 and Best Buy!

- Mike.

PS - In keeping with the thread topic, one thing I'd like to see is an
*easy* restart option...

Shame on you.. you shop at a bad place if you paid $60.

Eh, try exercising some patience and see how the patch helps out.

(And now to prepare for the inevitable "They should never have released
it.. you're playing a beta" ***that is sure to follow..)

this was my thought also but after further expermentation Im sure
this is not the case.  When I don't lock the brakes up it still pushes
bad when braking

I agree with you totally and they lock if I go more than half-way or so on my
T2.  I have been able to adjust my style very well though since them ICR2 days.
=)  The stopping power of the cars in MS CPR is incredible if you can keep from
lockin' 'em up! =)

Does the consumer protection laws/regulations have a web sight maybe we all should
be complaining to them about this software that not up to the advertiser promises.
You know how the Gov. is it takes years for them to do anything.

<snipped how C:PR is plain sh*t>

I just saw the new James Bond movie (Tomorrow Never Dies) and I was like the
only one that laughed at the joke.  Its the scene were the bad guy (I am bad
with remembering names) talks with each of the directors of the companies
division. There is the software head-guy.
You have to see it to really laugh at it (btw I saw it in French so I am
translating in English its maybe not the real words) :

=========================

Bad guy : Is the software ready ?

Head of the software guy : Yes it's ready for shipping.  Its plenty of bugs
and missing things, so that people can buy from us updates and patches for
years and years.

Bad guy : Excellent, very good...
