Driver: Please insert CD.....

by Badland » Thu, 07 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I just bought Driver - installation went just fine, but when starting the
program it just leaves me with a message box saying 'can't locate the
CD'.......

Yes, I have the Driver CD in the CD-player. Yes, it's a retail version - no
warez or copied CD.

My specs are: p2-400, CL-Voodoo2 8meg, Pioneer DVD-CD, 128 meg ram

Thanks, MaO

When this happened with Need for Speed it was due to it not being installed
from the first removable device. If you have a CD and DVD, if the DVD is say
D, and the CD is E, and you installed the game from CD, try installing it
using the DVD.  You must use the first removable device.

Anyway that cured my Need for Speed problem.

Andi.

Thanks for your reply - but the problem is that my cd-rom is a combined
DVD-CD, so I only have D:. So, I installed from D, and I let CD remain in
D - but without any luck....

Isn't this the copy protection system being a little over protective again?
My mind turns to Colin McRae Rally when the game refused to run on newer
CD/DVD drives until a patch was brought out. Made a few people slightly
angry, if I remember correctly...
Didn't it happen in Carmageddon 2 as well?

I'm not helping, am I?!!

Most likely it's a Safedisc copy protection conflict with your DVD drive.
I've seen the problem a number of times.

Well, thanks to all for replying - sigh....Yes it's the SafeCopy that screws
it up - I had to do something I usually don't do - get a crack which I found
on some obscure site - which removed the cd check. So now I'm running a
retail program with a crack just in order to be able to use it at
all....Geeze - I dunno if it's worth buying games anymore - the warez guys
seems happier :(
