This always has intrigued me. Why do folk call them selves the III or the IV

I dont think *HE* called himself that at all--not many ppl pop out in
delivery and say "Hey dad, why doncha' give me a dumbass name so I's can
show that I can count..."
If everybody had totally cool names, then spectacular names like your own
wouldn't shine so brightly.
