GPL_Replay_Analyser Problem! Urgent help required Please!!!

by MAD MA » Mon, 04 Jun 2001 22:06:14

Hi Group,

Here are two posts in order, I made to Legends Central yesterday and today.
Please have a quick read through them and see if you can suggest what could
put it right. Have not had the response I would normaly expect there so, I'm
trying the experts here. Thank you very much.

First post:

Hi,
I have been using GPL Replay Analyser 4.1 with no problems, up until the
release of version 4.5 the other night, which I downloaded and installed
(Just copy/paste over top of 4.1). Now, I cannot get the excellent GPL Rank
feature to work, or the Personal best feature  Both these items instantly
give a Windows GPF  As soon as you hit the close button then, the whole
program closes. You can run it again straight away but, same thing again, a
GPF ,General Protection Fault I should say  Everything else works just like
before, join replays, analyse replays, the various graphs etc. I then tried
copy/pasting version 4.1 back and, guess what? Yep, that is now having
exactly the same problems! I have checked that the "preferences" setting are
correct, and they are ok. GPL.exe is pointed at ok, and so is my replay
folder. I have had a look at my player/seasons folders and checked "every"
file, especially player.ini and all looks ok as far as I can tell. I have
NOT made any changes to these folders/files that I am aware of, except of
course adding a few recent tracks and so on. Things which have NOT affected
The GPL Replay Analyser program before. One more thing, when I ran the
Personal best feature, it actually worked ok the first time ONLY! It has not
worked since either. I love this great program and I use it one heck of a
lot and don't want to miss these two great features. Help/suggestions
urgently wanted please!!!!!!!!

Second post:

Hi,
I use a little Notepad replacement called Textpad which has many, many more
features. One of those features is a file compare command. I have used it to
compare my old Player.ini, with the latest one, since installing
GPL_Replay_Analyser 4.5 The differences it found are of course the latest
"best laps" which I expected, and, also the change in team etc. I was
driving the Eagle and Cooper before, and the new file shows I am now driving
the Lotus. The GPL rank AND the PB feature is obviously failing to read past
certain data in my Player.ini which, then crashes the program! The GPL rank
feature doesn't crash the program, it simply says the "standard", missing 11
lap times for ALL cars. Ok, luckily I take regular backups of GPL's system
files (especially ini's)  and I have tried the "old" Player.ini and
discovered that GPL rank AND PB are still working just fine! I really hope
someone can try and help me with this because yesterday I set a new PB at
Monza (Good for me anyway!), and of course I can't get the GPL rank feature
to show my "improvement". The latest "Lotus" lap times ALL appear ok in the
"best laps" screen GPL itself! I can attach the two copies of my Player.ini,
working(old) and, not working(Since V4.5) if you like. Anything to get this
working. Would you, Martin as the Program maker be willing to have a quick
look at the two files and see if you can figure out what's gone wrong?
Obviously you would be able to understand the issues far better than I
could.

Anyone else experiencing this problem out there and got it solved. I use
this prog a lot and these two features are ones I don't want to miss out on.
Thank you.

Can't suggest much, other than to say it's all working great for me. I never
install a new version over a previous one. I always delete as much as possible,
short of registry clean up, of a previous program before install a newer
version.

Hi,
It's ok now. I solved it myself. A second "corrupt" entry for the Glen was
causing the problems. I simply set a new PB at the Glen, went to replay
analyser and all was fine again! Phew!!!!!

Could not reply sooner, I've been away for the weekend and is trying
to catch up on mail and forum threads... :)

Was the currupt entry in season67.ini or player.ini?

Are you using any program which writes to these files? GPLRA does not
write to player.ini BTW.

Cheers,

/Martin
