I've been doing a little experimenting with N99.
Using Bristol day track, I noticed stuttering in the corners.
When using this new track in my "old" version of N2, hey no stuttering!
When turning "Objects" to "None" in N99, no stuttering.
Leads me to assume that there is a glitch in the way N99 draws the
objects, or places the objects. Anybody else come to any conclusions, or
uneducated guesses?
system:
 P166, 80meg, V1000 video, DMA and 4bit enabled.

Hello

I guess I am not the only one that noticed that too at Bristol.  At night I get
the same thing :-o)

I also experienced it at Texas (coming out of turn 4), and maybe Homestead.
Still playing the game when I get the time....I'm going to see if this is the
situation with other tracks.   Do you think it s the increased number of
objects thats causing this?

Well that is a good sign. It even happens to the
Rendition people :-)

i have a suspicion that the new prf file that you are supposed to use to
enable 4 bit textures does not work quite right.  after a while of fumbling
around i found out that you need to actually add the -4 and maybe the -dma
flags to the batch file. oh by the way, i had the same problem.  the
rendition can't handle the 16 bit graphics so well.here is the bat file
lines for nr1999r.bat

rem smackply nr1999.smk /U1 /N
nr1999r.exe -dma -4

there are also some graphical glitches using the 4bit textures as you will
find out. no slowdowns though.

Same problem with the Portland track.  Thought it was the computer (Intel
P5-166).  Voodoo 1, 32MB+ RAM (can't remember exactly).

It isn't the increased objects that are causing this, because my
original N2 executable runs the new enhanced tracks just fine with no
slowdown.

Charlie Heath addressed this & the Win 9x Rendition Problem in a post to

problems, send me an email and I'll try to help you out.

Sorry we couldn't get a native Windows Rendition version of NR1999.  The
problem was that original N2 Rendition rasterizer goes direct to hardware,
so it couldn't be ported to Windows; we would have had to do a complete
rewrite.   The 3dfx version was much easier to do, because it uses the
glide.dll libraries, so it was possible to port the 3dfx rasterizer to
Windows without having to start from scratch.

Try editing the .bat for NR1999, Add the -4 to the end of the command line
and it should get rid of that problem...

I tried this but I get no sound when i run it from the batch file I'm useing
the 3dfx ver so I added -4 to the nr19993d.bat file and tred to run it from the
bat file and get no sound then go back and ron it from the .lnk file that it
creates from the install and it works fine (the sound) but still stutters in
the turns,I'm I missing something here ?

I don't think the 4bit command works in 3dfx mode

-4 is to load 4-bit textures for the rendition card *ONLY*. It
is not intended for 3dfx.

Mike....Add these 3 lines at the end of your NR1999.INI file for an
8mb 3dfx card:

; 3dfx specific preferences
N2FXAA      2
N2FXLOAD=0X200000

This cured the stuttering problem on my machine.
