OT: Spa - worth a visit?

I'm travelling to Belgium for a week for work, and hope to get things
done early enough to have some free time.
Is it worth it to make a trip to Spa?  Any good racing museums or
something in the area?

Thanks for any info!

I went to the GP last year.
I couldn't say for certain about museums. There were a few shops,
souveniers etc  but how many were just there for the GP i don't
really know.

Having said that its worth a visit even without the motor sport
connection. It really is a very nice place, plenty of resturants
and wonderfull surroundings. If you've got free time i would
recomend going.

If youre not to far away, its definitely worth a visit. Ive been to every
Spa GP since 1990, so I should know ;-)

Parts of the circuit are public road, so if theres nothing going on, you
can take a spin. If Im not mistaken, the open part is the section from La
Source down through Eau Rouge, Raidillon and up to Les Combes, where the
road turns left and downhill instead of into the right-left-right-left that
is used on the track today. The left at Les Combes and the subsequent
downhill stretch is actually the old circuit, used in GPL - it goes all the
way down to the Burnenville righthander (look out for the red building on
the left going in race direction, its actually there). Further down, Ive
heard that the Masta kink is still there as well, but I havent seen it
myself. At any rate, if youre a GPL fan (and even if youre not) its
definitely worth a visit.

As far as I am aware, there are no museums or anything like that at Spa,
but, depending on how much time you have on your hands, the Nurburgring is
only about 30 miles away over the border into Germany. They have a fairly
good museum (although it has a fake Ferrari 250 GTO, which is slightly
annoying) and of course you can take a spin on the Nordschleife if its
open.

Generally, its a beautiful area, both Spa and the Ring, and probably the
most concentrated area of motor racing history in Europe.

Hope that helps, get back to me if you want to know more.

Wouldn't it be worth it just to drive around the old circuit???

Definately you should go there. Eau Rouge is beautiful in real life,
much steeper than it seems in GPL and on TV, and most of the old track
layout is public road now. There is a museum, but i don't know if it's
a GP museum, I didn't have time to check it out.
Spa itself is also a very nice town. If you're in the vicinity,
definately check it out!

You can drive around the complete GPL version of the track, but stay right
please....

The only part that's more or less destroyed is the Malmedy Complex: its
gone.
They made a new connection to the highway...

Don't pay for the museum at Stavelot: it's NOT worth it!!!
(I always tend to forget this and go there every 5 years: its a massive
dissappointment)

Could you tell me a little bit about the museum, is it big, and what
do they have there?

Definitely YES!
I live about 3 hours by car from the circuit and have been there 2
times already. Just to drive around the place (old and new!). I've put
some pictures online (www.esrac.ele.tue.nl/~tim).
Enjoy while you're there!
