But without a ranking system how fun can it be? There is no way that

I suppose GPL racers tend to have invested more time in learning the
sim, so they are more interested in actually racing than just messing
around.
And despite some complaints in the newsgroup, on the whole I find the
standards of politeness and consideration on the track to be extremely
high.
If TEN is different with Nascar races, maybe it just reflects the era
being simulated - the racers were more gentlemanly in 1967!
I did not paying, it was only $13 a moth which I would gladly pay any for
their great service!
Or maybe it was because only 31,000 units of GPL (Of which I am one)
were sold.
