The DOS  Mem command is totally irrelevant. Windows 95 doesn't use the DOS
memory management.

Windows95 dynamically allocates memory for programs and the disk cache. If
you have a lot of disk access and enough memory, the disk cache grows. When
a program then wnats more memory than what is available, the disk cache
shrinks, but a bit to slowly, and the swap-file grows.

Your problem probably is due to lack of disk-space on the swap-file disk .
Either delete unneccesary files, reduce the default vcache settings, buy
more memory or close all running programs while running GPL.

This will bring up a dialogue box that enables you to close any programs running
in the background. You will need to do this for every program running. This will
free up quite a bit of memory. There are two programs however that you should
keep running. These are systray and explorer.

You could also try manually specifying a permanent swap file. First of all run
disk defrag regardless of how much or little it says the disk is fragmented.
Next, right click on the my computer icon and select properties
...performance..virtual memory and check the let me specify my own settings. Set
both the minimum and maximum values and that should do it.

Reboot your system and enjoy.

Regards
Mark

I'll give it a shot. Try freeing up some disk space.

Hi, my brother in-law has a problem on his PC, it plays GPL fine the first
couple of times and then faults at the start with "not enough memory, please
close some programs" message.

I have checked at in a dos window with the "mem" command and all seems fine,
the really strange thing is you reinstall the game and it works again for a
while !!

Any help would be greatly received ( multi-player duels are well overdue :)

HELP !! GPL not enough memory..

I have experienced this problem every time I make any change to files in the
game.....grafx, *.ini files, etc.....Somehow, some extra code gets added to the
GPL.exe, making a bigger file than the original.......the problem is cured as
soon as you copy the GPL.exe file from the game CD back into your GPL directory.

Rotsa ruck,

Smogbike
