Monster Fusion & Monitor/Paint prog probs, Can't Paint Nascar Cars or Trucks anymore.

by Ron R. » Fri, 14 May 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I had a stealth 64 3d card linked with the 4 meg Monster 3d and all
was well.
Recently upgraded to the fusion and now have some probs.

When I have a medium colored backdrop on screen I get a faint but
noticable wave like pattern, similar to ripples in a pond running up
the center of my Viewsonic 21PS monitor.

Bigger prob is that I use paint shop pro 5.0 for a lot of graphics
work. Recently upgraded to 5.03 but still have prob. What happens is
that if I zoom in on an image the system locks up hard, CTRl-ALT-DEL
will restart, but nothing comes up to allow me to shut down a non
responding program when do ctrl-alt-del the first time. When do this I
have to run scandisk which keeps finding 32xxx of data unuasable. Only
scans c drive but I have psp on d drive. Have not tried other commands
yet so thus far only know about the zoom lockup. It also acted strange
first couple of time as the screen would either drag a mirror image of
a section of screen near mouse just prio to lockup, and once I had it
run scan lines of gray from top to bottom.

This is a recurring problem that I find no info on website about.

Also have noticed my system is much slower to boot, and to refresh 2d
screens since installed the fusion 16 meg card.

This is all happening with same screen display settings I used under
my old 2 card config, 800x600 24bit colors.

I am running bios 1.21 and the most recent driver update.

System is a P200 pentium with 64 meg of ram running Win95 4.00.950 B
Monitor is Viewsonic 21PS

Thanks
Ron

I had an original 3dfx Voodoo Card or Monster 3D in my system and my new Monster Fusion is not
working properly.
You need to remove the original Voodoo Graphics card and clean out all the old references to
the card.

3Dfx provides an .INF file to remove these references. It can be found here:
http://europe.3dfx.com/software/delv.inf -or-
http://europe.3dfx.com/software/delv2.inf

Alternatively, you can follow these steps:

Go to Start, Run, and type: regedit

In the registry editor under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/PCI delete the VEN_121A&DEV folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software delete the 3Dfx Interactive Folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Diamond delete the Monster3D folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current
Version/ControlsFolder/Display/shellex/Property Sheet Handlers
delete the folders pertaining to the original voodoo card

Then in c:\windows\inf\other delete any *.inf file pertaining to the Monster3D, 3Dfx
Interactive, the Monster Fusion, etc.

Then, make sure your system is setup to show all hidden files (in windows explorer, click on
view, options, folder options, and select show all files)

Then go to Start, Find, Files or Folders and search for glide on the C: drive searching all
sub-folders. Delete anything you find.

Then search for dd3dfx.drv, dd3dfx16.dll, and dd3dfx32.dll and mm3dfx*.*, delete them if you
find them.

Then search for fxmemmap.vxd and delete it as well.

Then search for SST1INIT*.* and delete it as well.

Restart the computer, and reinstall the drivers for the Monster Fusion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope this helps,
Chris

I was going to try the .ini route even though I had used the long
version (regedit) already, sadly both of the urls come up file not
found/broken link :(

Thanks anyway!
