Baseline T/A setups ?

by Goy Larse » Mon, 22 Sep 2003 20:47:04

Trying to get back into things, but I must say that I'm struggling to
get back up to speed, whether this is caused by an advancing Alzheimers
or whatever is unknown, but the fact is that I just can't seem to find
the speed I honestly thought I had in me

Doesn't have to be a track specific "killer" setup, I enjoy working on
setups so a good baseline setup is what I'm looking for, so far I've
tried just about anything I can think of, and while I can make a nice
stable setup with decent tire wear, I'm struggling for speed, like being
2 seconds off the pace at Watking Glen

So either I don't have the speed within me or I'm going the wrong way
with my setups, although since I seem to have tried just about anything
I know when it comes to setups, the former does now seem to be a likely
cause, maybe I am getting too old ? :-)

If you used the PWF installer there are "fast" setups included for the
standard tracks.  I have only tried it at the Glen so far, but it felt
pretty good to me.

That's the setup I've been developing mine from, can't seem to find the
speed though

It's good as a baseline.  I have no idea why so many people use brake
bias values of 68% or so in their road course setups tho..  just
knocking that down to 54-60 took a good second or two off my times at
WG since trailbraking actually helps point the car towards the apex
now.

I think it depends on braking style.  If you come off the throttle gently
and let the weight settle before putting on the brakes, then apply the
brakes gently, you can brake a lot harder than you could otherwise and
therefore need more front bias.  Whether that is a good thing or not is a
different question.  It seems like most simmers don't threshhold brake but
do trail brake, so they can't use/don't need as much front brake bias as
people who do threshhold brake and don't trail brake.

No can do here...I'd be spinning around every time I touched the brakes.
Then again, I'm not very good :(

Goy,

You got the setups that they had at the PWf site right?

PWF.....what's that ?

I didn't notice any separate setups there for T/A, so I used what came
with the T/A enabler as a basis for my own

<heads on over to PWF>

DOH !  Thx, will try them later

Yes, I have now tried it on WG, and while I went slightly faster than
what I had done previously, the setup wasn't really to my liking, funny
how you can drive faster with a setup you don't really like ?, however
it did remind me of some things we tried for last year's BR1000 that I
hadn't tried yet, so I'm testing "old" ideas :-) and I seem to be making
some progress, thx a bunch

Thx to PWF too for making these available

I assume you sent it to by mail :-), nothing has shown up at my end, my
ISP has installed spam filters and they seem to be somewhat over
zealous, or plain ***if you will

If you'd be so kind as to resend it to my yahoo mail I'd be most
grateful

goylarsen at yahoo dot com and yes I'm paranoid :-)
