I know its not really a sim but I like sims most and I'd like to know
what some of the other sim fans think of POD.  Please say anything you
think, but also address the following

does it play with 3 or more drivers to a single race on KAIL?  If so, is
it optimised better than N2 for KAIL?

does it support Rendition?

Are there weapons it it?

Does it support 56K modems?

It is pretty nice. I noticed some slight differences in the MMX and Win
versions. Its a little faster and the sound is a little better. Not bad
for the first MMX racing game on the market. I think it also supports
the 3dfx cards. Don't have a 3dfx so I don't know. I would imagine
anyone using 3dfx and MMX would have one hell of game to play.

Yep, it rocks with MMX and 3dfx.
Now to figure out how to configure a ECCI unit with Win95. Which I
believe is a lost cause.

If you have a 3Dfx card, MMX is only used for Dolby surround sound.
(Intel has been reportedly been running 3Dfx Pod at trade shows, with
"powered by MMX" stickers prominently placed.  Figures.)

Not surprisingly, the 3Dfx version blows away the MMX version.
It's gorgeous and ridiculously smooth.  If only the cars handled
like cars...

REPLY:

It's an arcade racer. It really has no real life physics in it. Pretty much
ruins it IMO for a serious contender.

We played Pod quite a bit right after it was released as a demo.
I really dig the whole concept, the dirty 'industrial textures and the
wealth of cars to (eventually) choose from.
However...
It is very much an arcade racer, so much so that when you hit a wall
it makes this tinny garbage can sound. I e mailed whichever company it
is that makes Pod and pleaded with them to change it before the game
came out, a little bit of debris or something would've helped a lot in
making the impact seem plausible. The cars do dent on their own, in
the repective places.
The two demo tracks were somewhat boring, especially after all of the
hype, but after a while Pod became pretty ***ive.
The fact that the track turns back on itself was cool, and I found
myself actually finding decent race lines on the courses.
I'll bet that the final release is pretty entertaining, but all of you
*** race sim guys will probably find the arcade handling a little
difficult to get used to. (unlike Interstate 76, which will blow your
mind, IMO)
Overall it was really fun to play.
Hope that the online cars and tracks live up to hype as well, anybody
who owns it have something to say in response?
