The motherboard is the Abit KT7 - I didn't need RAID so I skipped on the
KT7-RAID (same board as the plain KT7, but with RAID support). I've seen
a few people having quirky little problems with those boards, but Alison
Hine has one and after ironing out a few kinks, she appears to like it
well enough.
Memory is from Atlas Precision. They sell memory based on why kind of
motherboard you're using, and supposedly guarantee compatibility. The
chips on the simm module are "Infineon". If they don't work well, I
guess we'll be testing their "guarantee".
The CPU is an Athlon 1ghz. It was cheaper by over $100 than the 1.2ghz
part, and $100 is too much to spend on neglible performance gains, plus I
can always try overclocking the 1ghz and seeing how well it does.
The power supply is an Enermax EG451P-VE ATX 431 Watt unit. I *think*
this is the same power supply that 3D-Cool sells (as an option) in their
Tornado 2000 case. Since I already have a super-tower 11-drive case, I
wanted only the power supply, but found it for $60 less than 3D-Cool
wanted at Crazy PC. The power supply I bought is also billed as being
Athlon compatible. I wanted a big power supply because I have 4 hard
drives, two CD-ROMs, and a tape drive already, and plan on buying a
couple more hard drives.
On top of that, I'm waiting for the NV20 to come out, and I'm sure it's
gonna be a power-hungry ***. Until then, I'll be making do with my old
Voodoo3/3000.
