Vintook,
You make a very strange statememt here. First off, the statement that it
"seems to me that in trying to update an already great product, Papyrus
seems to only have degraded the performance" is an invalid statement
considering that you "have yet to get this new revamped version of Nascar2."
I have not seen that much chatter here about N1999 to warrent your first
statement.
As far as I see it-- and I have N1999-- the game is a fairly good buy. The
graphics (provided you have a 3dfx card) are better, the trucks are nice,
and the extra tracks a pleasant addition.
Being an online racer, I was a bit displeased by the fact that you still
have to run the DOS version of the game to race IPX. I haven't tried Kali
yet, but it would seem that it is very possible that the infamous warp
factor when racing with a number of online opponents would still be there.
I was hoping that after GPL Papyrus would have a better online IPX system,
which would've included a TCP option.
Still, despite this, N1999 is worth it.
:Now even people with a 300Mhz processor seem unable to get it to run
:that good. I won't even get into the car makes and sponsors problem. When
was
:Nascar2 originally released? Over a year ago? With all that time you would
:think they could make a minor upgrade worth something.
With all due respect (egad, I sound like Mr. Starr now), I'm not sure where
you're getting your information. This is one thing about N2 and N1999 that
I have always been happy with. Unlike GPL, which needs unbelievable
horsepower to run all 19 AI cars, N1999 runs well with all cars and all
graphics: and I have but a P200mmx.
So this idea that folks with "300MHz' machines cannot run N1999 is an absurd
statement that is simply untrue.
I certainly do agree with you on one thing though. From the time that N2
was released (it was more like three or four years ago) to the time of the
release of N1999, one would expect that the game-- especially the online
aspect of it-- would have changed drastically. It has changed, certainly.
But not as much as one would have expected.
The big question is of course when will the next, more transformative
version of Nascar be released. Sierra/Papyrus may be milking the success of
GPL, hoping that customers who have that excellent racing game will get
N1999, despite knowing that the difference between N1999 and N2 is not that
great.
Respectfully, I would have to disagree. If anything, N1999 is a small step
forward from N2. This small step would include improvements in such things
as the menus, graphics, and the additional trucks and tracks.
Later,
