dad had. His wreck was on the first lap and in the same turn 3-4 part
of the track that his dad wrecked in daytona. They said he got out of
the car, and was fine except for some limping.

It was the "same type of wreck" in that he went into the wall.
They failed to mention the difference between a "tank-slapper" (and
speed-scrubbing) crash while coming up to speed in traffic on the
first lap of a track where you go ~150mph versus a "bee-line up the
banking" crash during the frantic last lap at a track you go ~185 mph.
Very ironic, yes, but hardly that similar.
The media at work...

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
Looked very similar and left me speechless.

Let me tell you something, this scared the SHIT out of me.
He hit nearly identical to the way Sr did, although at a much lower speed.
It was truly spine-chilling...
And, he didn't put the Windows Net down like they are supposed to when they
are ok.
Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, they showed the In-Car camera
and Jr. moving around ok.
It was a tense moment for sure.
I really hated to see this race start like this.

Yeah, TV News 10 (Fox Channel 5) in Washington DC used Jr's wreck as a
commercial "lead-in" to the 10 oclock news.
They said something like "1 week after his fathers fatal accident at
Daytona, Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed on the first lap in a similar incident.
His condition at 10"
I was really, really pissed at how they handled this. They used the obvious
shock value factor to sucker in listeners.
But, that is Fox. It's how they conduct business.

It's pretty much how all American media conducts business. Fox doesn't have
a monopoly on shock TV.
They're trying :)

The thought crossed my mind that if something HAD happened to him,
considering all that went on last week - I was probably done watching racing
for a LONG time.....

Anyone that knows nascar also knows that this is about as typical as a wreck
as there ever is....slower speed on the start, in traffic, everyone checking
up in the first few laps.
Dale Sr.'s wreck was quite different.

Um... Head on, but not at the same speed. He was still messed
up when he got out of the car.
Speed scrubbing crash huh? Ok.
Right.

Give *me* a freaking break.
Sure... Hey we have a big NASCAR expert here.
Right. Sorry for butting in.
