I personally have done a 1:15.1xx, and the two guys from Team ATB on
CompuServe are having a HUGE battle there. The current status is :-

Michael Wollenschein : 1:13.2xx
Ralf Tzschoppe       : 1:13.4xx

Yup, 1:13!! I thought I was doing well.... :(

Cheers!
John

PS - All times above are what we call "Water Walking" - that is, no
driver help at all.

What about the sensitivity of the steering (opposite lock etc...).
What's allowed and what's not???

Happy racing

No opposite lock help, in fact no driver aids at all. You can set
steering lock as you want, and also "low sensitivity zones".

Cheers!

Can you pass on any tips for driving without the dotted line aid?
I use a T2 with no driving aids at all EXCEPT the dotted line.

I just got used to the skidmarks in ICR2 which gave a decent visual clue
as to how deep in trouble I am in the turns, and in GP2 I find myself
having trouble judging when to turn in without the dotted line.

Is the dotted line considered a driving aid or should I work really hard
to be able to do decent hotlaps without it?

If so, do you have any tips that will help lose my dependance on it?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers.

Hi John,

The best thing to do is practice - sorry, but that's it. Your mind has
to pick up other cues of when to turn in. Whether that is an advert on
the wall, a braking marker, so many seconds after the last corner -
whatever works for you. This can be VERY difficult, and some corners
such as Curva Sito Pons at Jerez are blind, uphill, off-camber AND open
out in the middle which is just an absolute nightmare to judge turn-in
points and when to start accelerating out. It CAN be done though, it
just takes a few laps. Take it VERY safely at first, to allow you to
back off if you get it wrong, and soon you will get into a rythmn that
will allow you to judge the corners.

I tend to work a track one corner at a time, really attacking it and
then relatively coasting the rest of the lap before attacking that
corner again. I continue that until I can do each corner really well,
and have a good understanding of what is possible and what isn't for
each corner. Then you can begin to understand where you should be
picking up time and adjust the setup accordingly. It usually takes 50-
100 laps, but then you're in good shape to run races, have a good
knowledge of the track and setup, and are confident with your driving
there.

Well.... :)  It's not as much of a driving aid as F7, because traction
control was totally banned in 1994 ("Draconian penalties" I believe was
the FIA's threat to anyone using it), but then I didn't see big white
lines painted on the track either! I think we shouldn't have it, but
then we're denied the "racing line" which gets worn on the track, so
it's not too bad. You decide....

See above. It's just more satisfying to run without it IMO, as it is
with all driving aids. The only one I use is F4/F5 when learning a
circuit, then remove F5, and finally remove F4 (when I can stay on the
track for more than a lap at a time!).

Cheers!
John
