Can someone explain what stability control does in terms of changing
the handling characteristics/physics?  For example, does it simply
increase tire grip, etc.?  ...and does stability control change the
"same" factors in each sim so that using stability control changes the
same characteristics in EA and in Papy sims?  Just curious....

The only games in which I have tried stability control are Xbox games -
NASCAR Heat and Sega GT.  In both cases what it appeared to be doing was
decreasing the available engine power when you get near a sliding condition.

Sounds like something the terrorist, child killer Bush would say you
accomplish by dropping thousands of bombs on the heads of the population of
a country. Don't forget to open fire into a van of women and
children......ripping them to shreds.

Well...that wasn't exactly the answer I was looking for.  Can anyone
offer a constructive answer?

Is that in F1 sims?

In general, it's about controlling brakes and power to individual wheels
to prevent tipping/leaning of the car and sliding.

Stability control is am assist for beginners that negates the effects
of shocks and springs on car handling.  It pretty much puts you riding
on a rail.  But you will never learn to drive this wonderful
simulation as long as you employ this assist or any of the others.  I
consider it a waste of time to compete in league play with the kiddie
stuff turned on, there is just no satisfaction.

So, this would be sort of a "heavy-duty" traction control system as
one might find on a high end road-going sports car?  A rapid
adjustment of brake and throttle to help prevent skids and spins, eh?

Maybe, but I think it would have been impossible to run Darlington without
it...  It was just too damn easy to spin, unfortunately.
