Super 1Karting Retail, Wow its just great FUN

I just got the retail version off Super 1 karting and boys it just
great, much better than the demo I tried.

This game is just so much FUN,  so far im in rookie mode and im using
a T.K.M class of kart, its great fun to drive these things, handeling
seems good  and allthough I have only driven indoor karts it feels
very real to me, I havent had this much FUN since I first got GPL.

Graphics are great and im running at 640x480 full detail with 24 karts
darwn, all the tracks look fantastic and at higher res they look even
better, i tried 1024x768 and ut ran ok FPS were still quite high but I
found it better in 640x480  and made my driveing smoother. I would say
at the higher res settings this game is as good as SBK 2000 in the
looks department.

Game play is great, the AI seem good and I have had some good races
with them, I have seem them slide in corners and get sideways around
bends, spin out and overtake me, all in all very solid AI so far.

Lots of options too , the one I really like is at the start where you
can pick Arcade or Simulation and then get more or less options
depending on which part of the game you enter, Arcade is pure fun and
is great for a quick blast with very simple kart physics, Simulation
is where im speending most my time though, here you can pick Karts
from 3 classes T.K.M    I.C.M   F.A. and also jump in and set up your
kart as well.

Anyway im really finding this FUN to drive and play, and I would
recommend it too all you guys in here, like I said I cant really judge
if its a true simulation of the karts involved but frankly I dont care
really as like I said it just all pure fun to drive in this game.

Ok only things I dont like and would hope Midas fix in a patch
allthough 1 is a extra I would like Midas to add.

Needs a look Left & Right  ( for overtaking)

No support for split axis thr & brake only combined :(.

Some tracks/Karts are locked out untill you complete & win
a championship. (its my game let me have access to all in it)

Slight dead zone on my USB MS Wheel ( like the demo had) but
when i tried my Logitech Wingman Extream joystick deadzone was gone
so its only on my wheel. I have edited the gp.cfg and made the
deadzone 0 wich made it better but theres still a slight one there.

Thats it so far FUN FUN FUN all the way.

BTW my rig is

Celeron 366 O/C to 458
128 meg Sdram
V3 3000

Just a bit more on this great game, im now running in 1024x1024 mode
and FPS are sweet in a race, I turned off lens flare, and knocked the
karts to be drawn down to 12.

The game play is very sweet in this game, I have just noticed that if
you put your hand over the carb (I think its the carb) and try to take
a corner you cant turn as hard in to the corner untill you take your
hand back to the steering wheel which gives you more movment.

That's the way it should be. Try to drive on a kart with one hand on
the wheel, you also can't turn in quite as far then...

What does this actually do to the Kart - I noticed in the button
assignment menu they call this "choke".  The only time I have
fiddled with a ***was starting a very tempramental Metro.
So what effect does it have on a running (warmed up) kart ?
When do you need to use it ?

I noticed the engine sounds very "rough" on the long straights,
should I ***it then as it didn't really seem to make much
difference.

From my experience from attending kart races.

The drivers need to ***their engines by putting their hand over the air
intake.
By doing so the engine gets less air and more fuel in the carburetor and
will
thus provide additional cooling of the engine and supplying extra torque.
That's why the do it at the end of a straight just before a tight corner...

Looks like I need to pick up this "sim" to test it.
Should I pick up the retail version directly ? Never tried the demo.

I do kart from time to time but it is with souped up 4-stroke karts (15
Bhp), which do
not need the addtional choke. I hope to try one of these  2-stroke beasts
this summer ...

Grab the full game, it really is fun, mind you the demo does give a
good impresion of the game, allthough the full version gives better
FPS than the demo and the AI feel a bit better.

Qs So do I ***just before bends or down the whole straight ??

In real life it is done just before turning into a corner... once or twice a
lap.
probably before the more tighter turns of a lap.

included?

Here we go:

Buckmore Park (= my favorit)
Shenington
Rowrah
Nutts Corner
Clay Pigeon
Fullbeck
Lydd International
Three Sisters
P.F. International
Wood Hill

BTW, these are reallife kart tracks!

There's supposed to be a bonustrack, which will be available after winning a
championship. On their site they mention "a real GP track", so this could be
a F1 track... Lets hope it's Spa!

Cheers,
JeDa

Buckmore park is British, I thought ther were only three or four real ones.
UK's PC Zone gave the game 34%.
