When I used Autoclutch, I still had to lift or she revved heavy between
gears. I have sinced switched to a button like you Ed, on my wheel, and
still have to lift but it makes for easier RPM matching for downshifting to
me. I'm less likely to whip the rearend around on a speedway when entering
the pits and shifting from 3rd to 2nd. Sometimes the spacing between 3rd
and 2nd with aotuclutch would cause the car swap ends if if I weren't paying
attention to the revs, using a button forces me to be attentive to the motor
and when to shift safely. As an aside, even with a button assigned to shift,
I can still lift and shift with no button. I haven't tried this in any
"points" races at the league, but have been experimenting with it in the
pickup carnage that is out there with no ill affects as of yet. I would
think it would be ok to just use the clutch when pitting like the big boys
do. Since the Jericho (sp?) *** has come into play at every track instead
of just the RC's I hear a lot of the NASCAR guys commenting on only using
the clutch to leave the pit stall. Even DW commented on clutchless shifting
being the norm with the bullet proof Jericho trannies at all tracks since
their heavy use in RC's without many failures.
