NASCAR shock settings?

NASCAR shock settings?

Is there any reason why you would want softer shocks other than to
preserve your tires?  I'm trying out Pocono for the first time and the
manual suggests softer shock settings.  I seem to get better lap
speeds with stiffer shocks and tire temps aren't over much hotter than
the what they are  under the ACE setup.

So ideally, it is best to have all shocks set as stiff as possible,
notwithstanding tire wear - is this correct?

Concerning Pocono, does anyone else have problems with the car
fishtailing as you brake into the corners?  I've tried shifting more
weight up front and increasing cross weight, and this helps.  Is it
possible to completely eliminate the back end spinning out or should I
just get used to tapping the brakes intermittently?  Don't stock cars
have ABS? (:>)   I guess this is the only course that requires you to
brake from 190mph all the way down to 125 or so (haven't raced them
all, yet).

Funny thing is, the higher the cross weight setting, the more wear
seems to be placed on the RR tire.  Yet the manual suggests the
opposite should happen.  I don't understand why the RR tire should see
the most wear in the first place.

I really do need to upgrade my hardware from this lowly 486/66.  Even
with all bells off (except auto car texture and skid marks on), things
can get a bit slow when driving in traffic (19 opponents).
Fortunately I'll be upgrading soon (P133 + Diamond Edge 3D), so I'll
finally be able to play this great game in SVGA!  And just in time to
light the tracks on fire on the network Papyrus is setting up.  I
can't wait.

Thanks,

Bill.

Check out the quick-fix setup guide to help tune the shocks at:
