OT: Kato's death, related to his manipulation?

I was just reading on the motogp site that Kato died from a "brain stem
infraction". Me not being a medical expert, are wondering if this could have
been caused by the horrifying way he was moved off the track?

It sure didn't help.  Those guys could give lessons on how not to handle a
motorcycle accident.  Kato had a slim chance at best with the damage he had
to his upper cervical spine. Even if he survived, chances are he would be on
a respirator for life and paralyzed from the neck down.

I didnt see the incident - but common sense would suggest you dont MOVE the
guy until a doctor is present - and then only under his strick guidence!

Typically we don't give praise where it is due, like at Brazil after
Alonso's accident. To the casual watcher he had hurt his leg - which proved
to be the case. Yet they took the necessary precautions and immobilised him
so he could be thoroughly checked out. Brazil gets some stick for its GP
organisation at times but this was very professional IMHO.

Cheers

Not trying to be "sick" but, anyone care to give a general description of
just how the track personnel handled the incident? I, for one, didn't see
it.

Seconded...I didn't even hear of it until he'd already passed on (no Speed
channel in the dorms) and had no idea it'd been handled poorly until reading
this thread.

They basically just grabbed him off the track, tossed him onto a stretcher
and hauled ass out of the way, trying to clear the track as quickly as
possible.  Having had personal experience of being manhandled by track
safety workers when I was busted up, it was painful to watch, and obviously
done without any concern for spinal cord injury.

I just cringed upon hearing it.

I doubt they were the outright cause, but that is NOT the way to handle
that.  If you have an injured driver...continuing the race is SECONDARY.
The other guys will gladly slow down, if only because they've either been
there or know they might be there eventually...

What track was this at?  Remind me never to race there (like it'll ever be a
problem but I can dream, heh)

They basically picked him up and tossed him onto a stretcher
like a sack of potatoes. He bounced when his body hit the stretcher.
I found it amazing that even an untrained cornerworker would do
that much less the 2 or 3 that were working the accident.
It really scared me to watch how they were handling him, for a moment
I thought that it was KR JR as he was not shown on the leaderboard
in his previous position.
