ASCAR is pretty dam cool!

just been to the opening round of ASCAR in the uk, with jason plato, nicolas
minassian, darren manning, toby schekter, john mikel, steve hodgeson et all
all running.

entertaining stuff, the support races were as cool as the main event, with
the little legends cars having no grip meant they were all over the track
more sideways than forewards.

cool day out.

the shape on the oval means that overtaking is tricky for those who are on
it all the time, and the series needs a bigger field, but on the basis of
what i saw today, i hope it succeeds in the uk and germany.

congrats to John Mikel, going to the Busch Series later this year! and good
luck to Vergers at indy in a few months for the Brickyard400.

ascars, i want one.

They race clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Now there's a blast from the past... I saw him race at the first
meeting I ever went to at Donington Park, back in 1992. I think it was
in British Formula Two, but I'm not sure.

Thanks, I guess they also race on the left side of the car.  I hope they do
for their own safety.

They sure do, Franky. The cars are imported from the States, same three
'shells' (Taurus, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix), at a slightly lower horsepower .
Seems a bit silly, really, as Chevys and Pontiacs aren't even sold over
here....

Aren't the Vauxhall's a GM product?  Would it make for more fan appeal if
the GM cars were rebadged as Vauxhalls?    maybe for a little international
spice make the Pontiacs Holdens.(since they both seem to share abit of
styling)  Of course I dunno how the English would take it if a car from the
colonies whupped up on a Vauxie.

Um, Holden is a GM company too.  Opel cars are
sold in Australia as Holdens - eg the Vectra.

And we all know an Aussie Commodore will eat your
average vauxhall for breakfast.. :)

I thought the Commodore was the same as the european Omega ?

Indeed. The Commodore I rented there two years ago with a 200 hp 4L V6
ruled. Simple as that.

Yeah well thanks.  For those "non-Americans" that might not know, one of the
reason why Stock-car racing is raced counter-clockwise is because we drive
on the left side of the car, therefore it's more safe in case of accidents.
The outside wall has less chance to hit the left side then the right side of
the car.  It's also counter-clockwise because that's how horse racing was...

Absolutely - I thought it was supposed to be like Touring Cars,
in that the cars are recognisable to the spectators.  The only
reason I've even seen a Grand Prix is that I used to live near
an American air base...

Well, possibly, but we'd still have no clue what a 'Monte Carlo'
was - you'd have to base it around a Vectra or Astra silhouette.
Hey, why not just bring in a DTM Astra Coupe V8? ;-)

Heck Franc,  I thought they went counter clockwise cuz if they didn't
